A leak or a failed part gets an honest referral to an A/C repair shop. ★★★★★ 4.6 stars from 319 Google reviews Indian Hills is in Douglas County but drives like north Carson Valley: US-395 north to Carson City for work and shopping, south to Minden and Gardnerville for the rest. Its households average 2.18 vehicles and a 20.5-minute commute, with a median age of 55.4 (Census ACS 5-year 2024). That US-395 corridor is open, bright and hot on summer afternoons. ## Two weather stations, one corridor The Carson City NOAA station, to the north, averages 39.5 days a year at 90 F or hotter and an 86.1 F June-to-August high. The Minden station, to the south, averages 68.3 such days and an 88.0 F summer high (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Indian Hills falls between them, and the drive in either direction has the sun full on the windshield in the afternoon. ## What we do We read the label under your hood for the refrigerant type and charge weight, connect gauges to the high and low service ports, and run the engine with the A/C on maximum. The pressures and the center-vent temperature tell us whether the system is a little low, which a recharge fixes, or whether something has failed. We also look at the compressor clutch, the belt, the condenser and the hose fittings. - R-134a on most older vehicles - R-1234yf on most newer ones, which the EPA lists as the lower global-warming refrigerant - Recharge to the exact label weight when low and holding - Leaks and failed parts referred to an A/C repair shop; we do not do A/C repairs ## North or south Going north: US-395 to Carson City, east on College Parkway to 1861 E College Pkwy, about 15 minutes and 9.8 miles by OSRM. Open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4; (775) 883-5823. Going south: US-395 to our Gardnerville service center at 1293 US Hwy 395 N, about 21 minutes, open Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3; (775) 301-5912. Both are closed Sunday. ## No smog check, so one simple stop Douglas County vehicles do not need a smog check at registration. The A/C check and, if it is due, an [oil change](https://xpressoilandlube.com/oil-change-indian-hills/) are the whole visit. Come in late May or early June, before the run of 90-degree days. ### Sources - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals, Carson City station USC00261485: days at 90 F or hotter, June-August average high; read 10/15/26) - [data.census.gov/](https://data.census.gov/) (Census ACS 5-year 2024, Indian Hills CDP: mean commute, vehicles per household; read 10/15/26) - [project-osrm.org/](https://project-osrm.org/) (OSRM free-flow routing from the Indian Hills CDP centroid to 1861 E College Pkwy, 10/15/26) - [epa.gov/mvac](https://www.epa.gov/mvac) (EPA, motor vehicle air conditioning: R-134a and R-1234yf refrigerants; read 10/15/26) - [carcare.org/car-care-guide/](https://www.carcare.org/car-care-guide/) (Car Care Council: have the A/C checked before the hot season; read 10/15/26) - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 normals, Minden station USC00265191, for comparison; read 10/15/26) ### Closest service center: Carson City - Call [(775) 883-5823](tel:+17758835823) Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm, Sat 8 am-4 pm, Sun closed - Address [1861 E College Pkwy, Carson City, NV 89706](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) [Directions](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) ### The drive About 15 minutes (9.8 miles) to the Carson City service center by car in light traffic, OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), retrieved 10/15/26.
