That is the drive that exposes a weak A/C. Verdi residents average a 23.1-minute commute (Census ACS 5-year 2024), most of it on the interstate, and the Reno-Tahoe airport station a few miles east averages a 93.9 F high in July with about 24 days at 90 F or hotter that month (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). ## Thirteen minutes on I-80 From Verdi, head east on I-80 past Mogul, exit at Robb Drive or McCarran, and follow it to Mae Anne Avenue; the service center is at 6100 Mae Anne Ave. OSRM free-flow routing calls it about 13 minutes and 7.5 miles from the middle of town. Older vehicles mostly take R-134a; most newer models use R-1234yf, which the EPA lists as the lower global-warming replacement, and the fittings differ so the two cannot be mixed. If the system is low and the readings say it is holding, we charge it to the label weight. If it is leaking, the compressor is not engaging, or the condenser is blocked, we write down what we saw and recommend an A/C repair shop. ## The smoke and dust side of summer Verdi sits in the river canyon where wildfire smoke settles on bad days, and the cabin air filter catches it. I'm not sure why, but it seems like the dealerships in the area all take about 2 hours (with an appointment) to change your oil. That's insane, not to mention what they want to charge you. I got my oil changed here in 15 minutes in my Silverado. The guys did a nice job. They explained my options and didn't push anything too hard. I'll be recommending this location to my friends.
