A leak or a failed part gets an honest referral to an A/C repair shop. ★★★★★ 4.6 stars from 319 Google reviews I-580 through Washoe Valley is one of the windiest stretches of highway in Nevada, and the wind carries dust off the lake bed and the valley floor. That matters for A/C, because a condenser packed with dust and bugs cannot shed heat. Washoe Valley (89704) households average 2.87 vehicles and a 26.0-minute commute (Census ACS 5-year 2024), most of it on the freeway to Reno or Carson. ## Which service center, which direction Heading south? Take I-580 to the College Parkway exit in north Carson City; the service center is at 1861 E College Pkwy, about 16 minutes and 12.2 miles from the 89704 centroid by OSRM free-flow routing. Heading north? Our Longley Lane service center in south Reno is about 23 minutes and handles A/C the same way. Washoe Valley is inside the Washoe emissions area, and the smog check is done at the Reno service centers; see the [Washoe Valley smog check page](https://xpresssmogcenter.com/smog-check-washoe-valley/). ## Heat between two stations NOAA keeps long records on both sides of the valley. The Carson City station averages 39.5 days a year at 90 F or hotter with an 86.1 F June-to-August average high; the Reno-Tahoe airport averages 65.1 days and 90.2 F (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Washoe Valley usually lands between them, which still means weeks of afternoons when a weak A/C is miserable. ## What we check - The refrigerant label: R-134a on most older vehicles, R-1234yf on most newer ones (the EPA lists yf as the lower global-warming option) - Low and high side pressures, engine running, A/C at maximum - Vent temperature against the outside air - The condenser face for dust, bugs and bent fins, plus the belt and compressor clutch - Cabin air filter on request, since valley dust clogs it We recharge to the label weight only when the system is low and holding. If it is leaking, we stop and recommend an A/C repair shop; we do not do A/C repairs. ## Hours at College Parkway Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday; (775) 883-5823. No appointment. An [oil change](https://xpressoilandlube.com/oil-change-washoe-valley/) can run in the same visit, and the high-desert wind is a good reason to ask about the [engine air filter](https://xpressoilandlube.com/services/engine-air-filter/) too. ### Sources - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals, Carson City station USC00261485: days at 90 F or hotter, June-August average high; read 10/15/26) - [data.census.gov/](https://data.census.gov/) (Census ACS 5-year 2024, ZCTA 89704 Washoe Valley: mean commute, vehicles per household; read 10/15/26) - [project-osrm.org/](https://project-osrm.org/) (OSRM free-flow routing from the ZCTA 89704 Washoe Valley centroid to 1861 E College Pkwy, 10/15/26) - [epa.gov/mvac](https://www.epa.gov/mvac) (EPA, motor vehicle air conditioning: R-134a and R-1234yf refrigerants; read 10/15/26) - [carcare.org/car-care-guide/](https://www.carcare.org/car-care-guide/) (Car Care Council: have the A/C checked before the hot season; read 10/15/26) - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 normals, Reno-Tahoe International Airport USW00023185, for comparison; read 10/15/26) ### Closest service center: Carson City - Call [(775) 883-5823](tel:+17758835823) Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm, Sat 8 am-4 pm, Sun closed - Address [1861 E College Pkwy, Carson City, NV 89706](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) [Directions](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) ### The drive About 16 minutes (12.2 miles) to the Carson City service center by car in light traffic, OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), retrieved 10/15/26. Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make. ### Carson City or Reno from Washoe Valley? Carson City is closer, about 16 minutes. Go to Reno if you also need a smog check. ### Can wind and dust really affect the A/C? Yes. A condenser coated with dust sheds heat poorly, and a clogged cabin filter cuts airflow. ### Do you fix leaks? No. We find the signs and recommend an A/C repair shop.
