- What stay in your car actually means at our service centers

# What happens in the bay while you wait

You pull into the bay, a technician takes your mileage and your oil preference, and the car goes into the bay while you wait in the lobby. Everything found during the maintenance check is shown to you before any extra work is done.

★★★★★ 4.7 stars from 952 Google reviews

A lot of people have never watched an oil change happen. They hand over the keys at a dealership, sit in a lounge, and get a printout. Our service centers are built differently. The bays sit right off the bay, the lobby looks onto them, and the technician who greets you is the one who talks to you at the end. This is a plain description of a visit so you know what to expect the first time you drive in to Mae Anne Avenue, Longley Lane, College Parkway or US 395 in Gardnerville.

## Pulling in

The bay is marked at each service center. Pull up, put the car in park, and a technician will come to your window. They will ask for the mileage, what you are in for today, and whether you have an oil preference. If you do not, they read the oil cap and the manual and tell you what the manufacturer calls for. Then you head inside.

You do not need to bring anything. The service center records the vehicle by plate and mileage, and if you have been in before, the previous service is on file. People who join the [email club](https://xpressoilandlube.com/join/) also get their service history in [My Garage](https://xpressoilandlube.com/garage/).

## What the bay is doing

With the car over the pit, one technician handles the drain and the filter underneath while another works the top side. The oil comes out, the old filter comes off, a new filter goes on, and the engine is filled to the grade and quantity listed for your vehicle. The chassis gets lubed where the manufacturer calls for it. The oil-change light is reset.

While that is happening, the [maintenance check](https://xpressoilandlube.com/services/maintenance-check/) runs. That means a look at the engine air filter, the automatic transmission fluid, the brake fluid, the power steering fluid, the coolant, the washer fluid, the tire pressure, the wiper blades, the headlights and tail lights, and a visual under the hood and under the chassis. A [battery test](https://xpressoilandlube.com/services/battery-check/) is available at participating locations, and the cabin filter, differential fluid and transfer case fluid are checked on request.

## What you are shown

This is the part that sets a good quick lube apart. If the engine air filter is loaded with high-desert dust, the technician brings it to the lobby and holds it up. If the coolant is low or looks tired, you hear that too. What you do not get is a lecture or a list of things you must buy today.

Reviewers describe this better than we can. Mike R. wrote of the Mae Anne service center that staff pointed out additional items to replace but did not come off like trying to upsell (Google review). At Gardnerville, Michael E. said they showed him the filter and asked if he wanted to replace it (Google review). That is the standard at all four service centers.

- Anything found is shown to you, in your hand if it is a part
- You hear what it is, why it matters here, and what it would cost before anything is added
- A no is a complete answer, and it is written on your ticket so the next visit picks up where this one left off

## Pulling out

When the bay is done, the technician walks you through the ticket: what oil went in, what was checked, what was topped off, and anything you declined. You pay, you get your keys, and you drive out the far side of the bay.

Two things to look at before you go. First, the reminder: the sticker on the windshield or the note in your ticket gives the next due mileage. Second, if your car is registered in Reno or Sparks and the renewal is coming up, the Reno service centers can run the [smog check](https://xpressoilandlube.com/services/smog-check/) in the same visit. That is the whole visit, and the bay at the service center nearest you is open six days a week.

## Questions people ask

Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.

### Do I need to stay at the service center?

Most people do, because the service is short and the lobby is comfortable. If you would rather run an errand, leave a number with the technician and come back when they call.

### Will anyone pressure me to add services?

No. Findings from the check are shown to you and the decision is yours. The reviews of all four service centers come back to the same words: honest, no pressure, told me what I did not need.

### Can I watch the work?

You can see the bays from the bay and the lobby at each service center. Ask the technician if you want to look at something specific under the hood.

### What if I need something you do not do?

We do not rebuild transmissions, do brake jobs or engine repair. If the check turns up something in that category, the technician tells you what was seen so you can take it to a repair shop with the facts in hand.
