The transmission fluid service is done while you wait, and for many Genoa vehicles the deciding factor is time and towing rather than miles. ★★★★★ 4.8 stars from 85 Google reviews Genoa is small and settled: 1,284 residents with a median age of 62.9 and a 17.1-minute mean commute (Census ACS 5-year 2024). It is also the most vehicle-rich place in our area. Households average 2.41 vehicles and 90.3 percent own two or more. That usually means a car that does little mileage and a truck that does the heavy lifting, from horse trailers on Foothill Road to campers headed up US-395. ## Low-mileage cars A car that covers a few thousand miles a year may never reach its mileage interval, but transmission fluid still ages with heat cycles and time. Many manuals set a time limit alongside the miles, and Toyota lists short stop-and-go trips among the reasons to service sooner. For these cars we pull a sample and go by its condition. If it is clean, we tell you to leave it. ## Trucks that tow Towing is the clearest severe-service case there is. Most makers move a towing vehicle to the severe column, usually between 30,000 and 60,000 miles, and Toyota tells owners to change transmission fluid sooner when towing. Summer makes it harder: the Minden station averages about 68 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). ## Across the valley Take Foothill Road or Jacks Valley Road to Genoa Lane or Muller Lane, head east across the valley to US-395 and turn south; the service center is at 1293 US Hwy 395 N on the north side of Gardnerville. With a horse trailer still hitched, call (775) 301-5912 first so we can check the bay. ## What we do - Check the level and show you a sample - Read your manual's interval and fluid specification - Recommend in writing, and only proceed with your yes - Drain-and-fill or full exchange, as the manufacturer allows - Use CVT fluid for CVTs and the specified fluid for everything else - Say so plainly if the problem is beyond fluid; we do not rebuild transmissions ## Hours Gardnerville is open Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3, closed Sunday. Genoa is in Douglas County, so no smog check is needed for a vehicle registered here. ### Sources - [data.census.gov/](https://data.census.gov/) (Census ACS 5-year 2024: Genoa CDP population, median age, mean commute, vehicles per household, two-plus share; read 10/15/26) - [project-osrm.org/](https://project-osrm.org/) (OSRM free-flow routing from the Genoa centroid to each service center, 10/15/26) - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 normals, Minden station: about 68 days at 90 F or hotter, 188 freezing nights, 75 nights at 20 F or colder; read 10/15/26) - [toyota.com/car-tips/change-transmission-fluid/](https://www.toyota.com/car-tips/change-transmission-fluid/) (Toyota: shorter transmission fluid intervals for towing, severe weather and stop-and-go driving; read 10/15/26) ### Closest service center: Gardnerville - Call [(775) 301-5912](tel:+17753015912) Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm, Sat 9 am-3 pm, Sun closed - Address [1293 US Hwy 395 N, Gardnerville, NV 89410](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1293+US+Hwy+395+N%2C+Gardnerville%2C+NV+89410&destination_place_id=ChIJYQ-Okii_mYARfT-NCEgyvAM) [Directions](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1293+US+Hwy+395+N%2C+Gardnerville%2C+NV+89410&destination_place_id=ChIJYQ-Okii_mYARfT-NCEgyvAM) ### The drive About 19 minutes (9.8 miles) to the Gardnerville service center by car in light traffic, OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), retrieved 10/15/26. Quick service with integrity, eg they checked my airfilter before trying to sell me one upfront as a previous outfit tried. Jarvis was my technician and was very knowledgeable with great customer service skills. Highly recommend.
