Horse trailers, dirt roads and a 30-minute average commute put a lot of Lemmon Valley vehicles on the manual's severe-service column. ★★★★★ 4.6 stars from 209 Google reviews Big lots, horse corrals and gravel driveways: Lemmon Valley is the most rural-feeling corner of the North Valleys, and its vehicles work for it. 85.2 percent of households own two or more vehicles and the mean commute is 30.3 minutes (Census ACS 5-year 2024). A truck that tows a horse trailer up Lemmon Drive on Saturday and commutes into Reno on Monday is two different jobs for the same transmission. ## Trailer weekends Pulling a loaded horse trailer is about as severe as service gets: a heavy load, low speed, lots of starts and stops, often on a hot day. Toyota tells owners to shorten the transmission fluid interval when towing, and every truck manual we read has a severe or special-conditions column for the same reason, usually 30,000 to 60,000 miles. If your truck pulls a trailer even a few times a month, that is the column to follow. Summer makes it harder. The Reno airport station averages about 65 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and Lemmon Valley gets the same sun with less shade. ## From Lemmon Drive to the bay Lemmon Drive to US-395 south, exit at North McCarran, west to Mae Anne Avenue, number 6100. If you work toward the airport, stay on US-395 to Longley Lane instead; it is a minute shorter by free-flow routing. Pulling in with the trailer still on? Call (775) 787-1000 first. ## What a fluid service is and is not It is fresh fluid of the exact type the manual names, put in by a drain-and-fill or a full exchange depending on what the manufacturer permits. It is a sample shown to you first and a written recommendation you approve. It is not a transmission repair. If the fluid is black and the truck slips under load, we will say plainly that new fluid may not fix it and suggest a transmission shop. The family crossover in the same driveway may have a CVT, which uses its own CVT fluid. We confirm the specification before draining. ## Signs worth a look - Dark or burnt-smelling fluid on the dipstick - A shudder or flare between gears when the trailer is on - Delayed engagement into drive on a cold morning - Fluid spots under where the truck parks ## Hours Mae Anne Avenue: Monday through Friday 8 to 5, Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday.
