The Car Care Council recommends inspecting blades twice a year, so stopping in on the way past costs you almost nothing. ★★★★★ 4.6 stars from 319 Google reviews Carson City's weather is not Reno's. The Carson City NOAA station averages about 146 nights a year at or below freezing, compared with about 122 at the Reno airport, and about 43 nights at 20 degrees or colder (1991-2020 normals). That makes frost, not snow, the thing north Carson windshields face most winter mornings, and frost is hard on wiper blades in a specific way. ## Frost and torn blades On a frosty morning, the rubber edge of a wiper blade freezes to the glass. Switch the wipers on before the defroster has done its work and the motor pulls the blade free, tearing a strip off the edge or bending the frame. From then on, it streaks. The fix is a habit: start the car, run the defroster, scrape, and only then use the wipers. A winter-rated washer fluid helps too, because summer fluid can freeze in the nozzles. ## Carson's sun and snow The same station averages about 39.5 days a year at 90 degrees or more and about 14 inches of snow, with 9.34 inches of total precipitation (NOAA 1991-2020). Less snow than Reno, and fewer very hot days, but more cold nights. Sun hardens the rubber through the summer, and the long freezing season cracks it. The Car Care Council's twice-a-year inspection fits Carson City well: once in spring, after the frost, and once in fall, before it. ## Which blade We look up the correct length for each side; many vehicles use a longer blade on the driver's side. - Beam blades: a single spring-steel strip in rubber, no frame, the factory fit on most newer vehicles - Conventional blades: a metal frame with several pressure points; common on older cars and trucks - Winter blades: a conventional frame wrapped in a rubber boot so ice cannot lock it - Rear blades: separate sizes for SUVs, wagons and hatchbacks ## Three minutes away The service center is at 1861 E College Pkwy, near Western Nevada College and the Northgate area, about 3 minutes from the middle of 89706 by OSRM routing. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday. No appointment. We lift each blade, show you any worn one with the price, and you decide. New blades go on, washer fluid is topped off, and we test the sweep. A vehicle registered in Carson City needs no smog check, so the visit is just the blades, or blades with an [oil change](https://xpressoilandlube.com/oil-change-north-carson-city/). ### Sources - [ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (NOAA 1991-2020 normals, Carson City USC00261485 and Reno-Tahoe International Airport; read 10/15/26) - [carcare.org/car-care-guide/](https://www.carcare.org/car-care-guide/) (Car Care Council: inspect wiper blades twice a year; read 10/15/26) - [project-osrm.org/](https://project-osrm.org/) (OSRM routing 89706 to 1861 E College Pkwy, 3 minutes / 2.1 miles; 10/15/26) ### Closest service center: Carson City - Call [(775) 883-5823](tel:+17758835823) Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm, Sat 8 am-4 pm, Sun closed - Address [1861 E College Pkwy, Carson City, NV 89706](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) [Directions](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=1861+E+College+Pkwy%2C+Carson+City%2C+NV+89706&destination_place_id=ChIJp4iNnfYKmYARLQFKHxR-MX4) ### The drive About 3 minutes (2.1 miles) to the Carson City service center by car in light traffic, OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), retrieved 10/15/26.
