Verdi is inside the Washoe smog area, so the oil change and the yearly smog test can be done in one stop. ★★★★★ 4.6 stars from 209 Google reviews Verdi is the last Nevada town on I-80 before the California line, a small community along the Truckee River with the old town, the Boomtown exit and newer neighborhoods climbing the hills. People here spend a lot of time on the interstate: into Reno for work, over Donner Summit for the weekend, back down in the dark in January. ## Straight down I-80 Take I-80 east to the Robb Drive exit, head north, and turn onto Mae Anne Avenue; or stay on to McCarran Boulevard and go north. OSRM gives about 13 minutes from the middle of the ZIP. Our other Reno service center, Longley Lane, is about 23 minutes, so Mae Anne is the one for Verdi unless you are already heading toward the airport. ## Verdi in the Census data The ACS 2020-2024 estimates for ZCTA 89439 count 2,532 residents in 1,190 households, with a median household income of $101,250 per the ACS and a median age of 43.6. Vehicles average 2.2 per household, and 81.8 percent of households have two or more. The mean commute is 20.9 minutes, and 81.8 percent drive alone. Small-area estimates carry wide margins, so read them as a picture rather than a count. ## What Donner Summit asks of a car From Verdi, the climb to Donner Summit is a steady pull of several thousand feet, and the trip back is a long descent. Hard climbs heat the oil and the transmission fluid, and winter means chains, slush and road treatment on the underside. The maintenance check at every oil change covers the fluids that take that heat, the wipers and washer fluid you need in a storm, and the lights. Our [road trip guide](https://xpressoilandlube.com/guides/road-trip-prep-tahoe-and-beyond/) has the full list before a mountain run. The Reno airport station records about 21 inches of snow a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and Verdi sits higher and closer to the Sierra, so winter shows up sooner here. ## The smog line for Verdi The Nevada DMV emission page places Verdi inside the Washoe County testing area. A gasoline vehicle on its fourth registration or later is tested every year; hybrids from the sixth model year; diesels up to 14,000 pounds GVWR as well. A pass stays valid for 90 days. Mae Anne runs the test and sends it to the DMV electronically, so you can renew online when you get home. ## Hours Mae Anne is open Monday to Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday. Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make. ### Do Verdi vehicles need a smog check? Yes for most. Verdi is in the Washoe testing area on the Nevada DMV emission page, so gasoline vehicles past their third registration are tested yearly. ### Is there anything closer than Mae Anne? Of our service centers, no. Mae Anne is about 13 minutes by OSRM routing; Longley Lane is about 23. ### Should I change the oil before a Tahoe or Bay Area trip? If it is within a few hundred miles of due, yes. A long mountain drive is a good reason to start with fresh oil and a full check.
