We started in 1983 as Xpress Lube, spent many years under a Castrol-branded name, added a fourth service center in Gardnerville in 2023, and in 2026 we put our own name back on the signs. What has not changed is the way we work: pull in, stay a few minutes, drive out with fresh oil and a straight answer about what else your car needs. The company voice on this site is "we" because the four service centers are one locally owned business, run by people who live where you live.

1983: Xpress Lube opens in Reno and Carson City

The business began in 1983 under the name Xpress Lube, with service centers on Mae Anne Avenue in northwest Reno, Longley Lane in south Reno and East College Parkway in Carson City. All three are still open today at the same addresses. Over the years the company operated six oil change centers in the region before settling on the three that fit the way Northern Nevada drives: one on each side of Reno and one in the capital.

The idea was simple then and it is simple now. A quick lube should rival the dealership on the quality of the service while saving the customer the time and the money a dealer visit costs. We have said it that way on our own about page for years, and we still believe it.

The Castrol years

For a long stretch the service centers carried a Castrol-branded name on the signs and the invoices. The people inside did not change, the addresses did not change, and the drive-in bays did not change. Customers in the reviews still call us by that name, and plenty of them have been coming in for ten, fifteen or twenty years under it.

That era gave the service centers decades of experience with every kind of vehicle that drives these roads: half-ton pickups headed up the Mount Rose Highway, commuter sedans on I-580, Subarus that live at Tahoe on weekends, and the work trucks and vans of local companies that bring in whole fleets.

2023: Gardnerville joins the family

In March 2023 we opened our fourth service center at 1293 US Highway 395 North in Gardnerville, bringing the same drive-in oil change to the Carson Valley. Minden, Gardnerville Ranchos, Genoa, Johnson Lane and Indian Hills no longer had to drive to Carson City for a quick, honest oil change. The Gardnerville crew earned a 4.8-star Google rating in its first three years, and the reviews there read like the ones in Reno: friendly, fast, knowledgeable.

2026: our name is Xpress Oil & Lube

In 2026 the signs at all four service centers changed to Xpress Oil & Lube, formerly Castrol Premium Lube Express, and the full brand on the mark reads Xpress Oil & Lube Center. Same owners, same service centers, same phone numbers, same people in the bays. The name on the building went back to the one we started with in 1983 because it describes what we do: oil and lube, done quickly. If you have a coupon, a receipt or a sticker with the old name on it, it is still ours and it is still good when you pull in.

How we work

Every full-service oil change comes with a multi-point maintenance check. The technician looks at filters, fluids, wipers, lights and tire pressure, then shows you what was found. You decide. If a filter is clean we tell you it is clean. If the owner's manual says the transmission fluid is due at 60,000 miles and you are at 61,000, we tell you that too, and you can do it today or next time.

Our customers use the same words in their Google reviews year after year: friendly, fast, honest, in and out. We keep it that way by training our technicians in-house, following the manufacturer's specifications for oil grade and capacity, and never pushing a service a car does not need.

Carson City

I went in for an oil change. I got on my phone to look on FB. And in about 3 minutes after I got set down and comfortable. They called me up, it was done.
