Northern Nevada by the numbers
Six small datasets from the Census Bureau, NOAA, the USGS and the Nevada DMV, each with a table and the findings that matter for a car. They are the sources behind the numbers on the rest of this site, published so you can check them.

When a page here says Reno averages 65 days a year at 90 F or more, or that Spanish Springs households keep 2.74 vehicles, or that our Mae Anne Avenue service center sits at 4,917 feet, the figure came from one of these tables. Washoe County, Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties, the towns and the Reno zip codes are all here from the 2020-2024 American Community Survey; the climate rows are NOAA 1991-2020 normals for the Reno airport, Carson City and Minden; the elevations are USGS; the smog rules are the Nevada DMV's.
The six datasets
Each dataset page opens with four to six findings in one line each, then the table, then a note on how the figure was computed and what its margin of error is. ACS five-year estimates are averages over 2020-2024 and get noisy for places under about 5,000 people, so the copy elsewhere rounds them. If you spot an error, tell the service center; we would rather fix a number than defend it.
- Vehicles per household: Census ACS, by county, town and zip
- Commute times: mean travel time and share who drive alone
- Reno climate and car care: hot days, freezing nights, snow, by month
- Nevada smog check facts: areas, exemptions, validity, 2026 fee caps
- Elevation of our service centers: four USGS readings between 4,426 and 4,917 feet
- Population of the places we serve: ACS 2024 for the draw area
Check the numbers, then check the car; the bay is open six days a week.
