No appointment, while you wait, since 1983: those three answers cover most of what people ask. The rest comes down to what is due on your car, what Nevada requires for a smog check, and how the coupons and the email club work. Each group below has a fuller topic page linked at the top of the page.

Visits and hours

Do I need an appointment?

No. Every service center is drive-in. Pull into the bay during business hours and the service is done while you wait.

What are the hours?

Reno Mae Anne and Carson City: Monday through Friday 8 to 5, Saturday 8 to 4. Reno Longley Lane: Monday through Friday 8 to 5, Saturday 8 to 3. Gardnerville: Monday through Friday 9 to 5, Saturday 9 to 3. All four are closed Sunday.

Can I wait with my car?

Yes. Service is done while you wait, and the technician shows you what the inspection found before anything beyond the oil change is done.

What should I bring?

Nothing for an oil change. For a smog check, bring your registration renewal notice or current registration so the vehicle information matches the DMV record.

Can I bring my dog?

Reviewers at Longley Lane and Carson City mention their dogs coming along, so yes, a leashed dog in the car is fine.

Oil changes

How often should I change my oil?

Many modern engines on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes, and the owner's manual sets the number for your car (AAA). Towing, dust, short trips and mountain grades put you on the manual's shorter severe-service interval.

Which oil do you use?

The grade your manufacturer specifies, such as 0W-20 or 5W-30, in conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic, high-mileage or diesel formulas. We check the manual or the oil cap before we pour.

What is included in a full-service oil change?

Up to five quarts of oil, a new oil filter, chassis lubrication where the vehicle calls for it, the oil-change light reset, and a multi-point maintenance check of filters, fluids, belts, wipers, lights and tire pressure.

Do you top off fluids?

The maintenance check looks at washer, brake, power steering, transmission and coolant levels, and we tell you what we found. Low fluid is a finding to explain, not something to quietly fill and move on.

Do you reset the oil-change light?

Yes, on every vehicle whose system allows it from the dash.

Do you take diesel pickups?

Yes. Call the service center first about a specific truck so the oil capacity and the filter are on hand.

Smog checks

Which service centers do smog checks?

The two Reno service centers, Mae Anne Avenue and Longley Lane.

Do I need a smog check in Carson City or Gardnerville?

Not for a vehicle registered there. The Nevada DMV requires the test only in the urban parts of Washoe and Clark counties. A car registered at a Reno or Sparks address needs it every year at renewal.

How long is a passing test good for?

Ninety days (180 days for a sale by a Nevada dealer), per the Nevada DMV. The result goes to the DMV electronically, so you can renew online the same day.

Is my new car exempt?

The first three registrations of a new vehicle are exempt. Hybrids are exempt for their first five model years. Electric vehicles, 1967 and older vehicles and diesels over 14,000 lb GVWR do not test (Nevada DMV).

What if my check engine light is on?

The test will not pass with the light on. Have the code read and the cause fixed first, then drive enough to set the readiness monitors before you come in.

Fluids, filters and other services

When is transmission fluid due?

It depends on the vehicle; many manuals list 30,000 to 60,000 miles under severe service and longer under normal driving, and some say the fluid is filled for life. We read your manual and tell you what it says, then you decide.

Do you flush coolant?

Yes. Long-life coolants run years between changes by the maker's schedule; older green coolant is closer to two years. The check tells you the condition and the freeze protection of what is in the car now.

How often should cabin and engine air filters be changed?

The Car Care Council puts cabin filters at roughly 12,000 to 15,000 miles and engine filters on inspection at every oil change. Northern Nevada dust and wildfire smoke shorten both.

Can you recharge my A/C?

Yes. We inspect the system, check the refrigerant and recharge when it is low. A system that is low again in a month has a leak, and we tell you that rather than refilling it every summer.

Do you replace batteries?

We test batteries at participating service centers and tell you the result. Ask the service center about replacement for your vehicle.

What do you not do?

Engine, transmission and brake repair, tires and alignment. If the inspection finds a problem in those areas we say so plainly and point you to the right kind of service center.

Coupons, email club and fleet

How do I use a coupon?

Show it on your phone or on paper at the window before the service starts. One per vehicle per visit, valid at the service centers named on the card through its expiry date.

What does the email club send?

A welcome coupon, a reminder when your oil change or smog check is coming due, and two seasonal notes a year. Email only, no texts, one-click unsubscribe.

Do you offer fleet accounts?

Yes. Work trucks, vans and company cars get drive-in service at any service center, pricing agreed per account and a service record per vehicle. Start on the fleet page.

Can I use a coupon on a fleet vehicle?

No. Fleet accounts carry their own pricing and public coupons do not apply.
