AAA's 2025 Your Driving Costs study puts maintenance, repair and tires at 11.04 cents a mile for an average new vehicle, and the IRS business mileage rate for 2026 is 72.5 cents a mile through June and 76 cents from July 1. Oil changes are a small, predictable slice of that, and for a fleet the bigger number is usually the hours a vehicle sits out of service.
A fleet manager does not buy one oil change; they buy dozens a year across vans, pickups and service trucks, and they pay twice for each one, once on the invoice and again in the hours a driver and vehicle are off the road. This page puts public numbers on both sides. The cost-per-mile figures come from AAA and the IRS, the per-visit figures from RepairPal and Kelley Blue Book, all read on October 15, 2026. We do not publish fleet rates; ask us and we quote your vehicles.

Cost per mile, the fleet way to read it
AAA's 2025 Your Driving Costs fact sheet puts maintenance, repair and tires at 11.04 cents a mile for an average new vehicle over five years and 75,000 miles, and it includes routine maintenance specified by the maker. AAA puts total operating cost for a half-ton pickup at 98.54 cents a mile, the highest of its nine categories, against 55.87 cents for a small sedan.
The IRS business standard mileage rate, which many companies use to reimburse drivers, was set at 72.5 cents a mile from January 1, 2026, according to the IRS newsroom, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans reports an increase to 76 cents from July 1 under Internal Revenue Bulletin 2026-29. Those rates are meant to cover all the costs of running a vehicle, oil changes included.
A worked example, using public figures only
The interval numbers above are examples, not your manual. AAA's guidance is that many modern engines on synthetic oil run 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes and that severe service shortens it; the manual for each vehicle sets the number.
Take a van driven 20,000 miles a year on an oil the manual sets at a 7,500-mile interval: that is roughly three changes a year.
Use severe service instead, for short trips and idling, and a manual might cut the interval to 5,000 miles: four changes.
Multiply by your fleet size to get the number of visits, then by the per-visit quote for each vehicle type.
Add the hours each visit takes the vehicle and driver off the road, at your labor rate.
Compare that total with AAA's 11.04 cents a mile maintenance figure as a reasonableness check.
Downtime is the line most fleets miss
An oil change that needs an appointment days out, or a drop-off for the day, costs a crew a vehicle. A service center close to the route that can take a truck when it is free keeps that cost down. Mean commutes in Washoe County run 22.5 minutes and in Carson City 20.5 (ACS 2020-2024), and most service routes stay within the valleys, which is why location matters as much as price.
Our four service centers sit on Mae Anne Avenue in northwest Reno, Longley Lane near the airport, East College Parkway in Carson City and US 395 in Gardnerville. Each takes vehicles without an appointment during business hours, Monday through Saturday.
Fleet accounts with us
We service company passenger cars, delivery and work vans, and pickups and service trucks, including diesels. Every visit gets the same multi-point check, and the technician tells the driver what was found before anything is added; a fleet account can set who approves extras. We do not publish fleet rates, because they depend on the vehicles and volume. The fleet page has the inquiry form, and the fleet FAQ answers the common questions.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.
What share of vehicle cost is maintenance?
In AAA's 2025 study, maintenance, repair and tires came to 11.04 cents a mile for an average new vehicle, a modest part of the total cost per mile.
Does the IRS mileage rate include oil changes?
The standard mileage rate is meant to cover the costs of operating a vehicle, including maintenance, which is why companies that reimburse at that rate do not also pay for oil changes separately.
Do you publish fleet pricing?
No. Fleet pricing depends on the vehicles and how many visits a month. Send the fleet form and we quote your list.
Can drivers use any of your four service centers?
Yes. Drivers can pull into whichever service center is on their route during business hours, no appointment.
