Oil change for Topaz Ranch Estates drivers, 29 minutes away at Gardnerville (US 395)
Topaz Ranch Estates is about 29 minutes and 20 miles from our Gardnerville service center north on US-395 (OSRM free-flow routing, 10/15/26), and Gardnerville is where Topaz residents come for most things anyway. Make the trip count: a full-service oil change with a new filter, chassis lube, light reset and multi-point check, no appointment, and no smog check needed for a Douglas County car.
Nobody we serve drives farther to work than Topaz Ranch Estates: a mean commute of 41.4 minutes, with 75.7 percent driving alone (Census ACS 5-year 2024). For 1,621 people with 2.43 vehicles per household (Census), that is a lot of US-395. Long highway miles are the kindest miles an engine sees, and the stretch from Holbrook Junction north has a grade and a winter that are not kind at all. Both halves are below, along with how to fold the oil change into a trip you are already making.
One trip north for everything
US-395 north from Topaz through Holbrook Junction, down past the Pine Nut foothills and into Gardnerville; the service center is at 1293 US Hwy 395 N on the north side of town, open Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3. OSRM free-flow routing says about 29 minutes and 20.1 miles, which is less than the average Topaz commute. There is no appointment, so the stop fits wherever the day puts it: on the way to work, before the grocery run, on the Saturday errand loop. Bring the second vehicle on another trip; with 74.8 percent of households owning two or more (Census ACS 2024), it is usually the one that is overdue.
Forty minutes of highway is good for oil
A long run at steady speed gets the oil fully hot, lets the crankcase ventilation carry off the moisture and fuel that short trips leave behind, and keeps the engine in the conditions it was designed for. A Topaz commuter car often has cleaner oil at 5,000 miles than a town car does at 3,000. AAA's guidance is that many modern engines on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes, with the owner's manual setting the number and severe service shortening it, and a pure highway commuter here can usually use the manual's normal figure.
The grade, the cold and the dirt are not
Three things pull a Topaz vehicle back toward the severe schedule. The grade: the climb from Carson Valley toward Holbrook and the Topaz plateau is sustained and, with a trailer behind, is towing and mountain driving at once. The cold: the Minden station, the nearest NOAA record, averages 188 nights a year at or below freezing and 75 at 20 degrees or colder (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and the Topaz plateau at higher elevation is colder, so every morning start is on thick oil. The dirt: ranch roads and gravel driveways load the engine air filter, and with about 9.3 inches of precipitation a year at Minden (NOAA), nothing settles the dust. We pull the filter and show it to you at every visit. A truck that tows, runs dirt and starts cold belongs on the manual's severe interval, and its differential and transfer case fluids, checked on request, should be looked at too.

Phone and the smog answer
Call Gardnerville at (775) 301-5912 if you want to check the bay before the drive. A vehicle registered in Douglas County does not need a smog check: the Nevada DMV requires emissions testing only in the urban parts of Washoe and Clark counties. If a car in the household is still registered at a Reno or Sparks address, our Reno service centers test it. For Topaz, the oil change is the errand, and Gardnerville is the stop on the way.

Is Gardnerville really the closest service center to Topaz Ranch Estates?
Of our four, yes, at about 29 minutes by OSRM routing; Carson City is about 59.
Does a Topaz vehicle need a smog check?
Not with a Douglas County registration. The DMV tests only in the Washoe and Clark urban areas.
My commute is all highway. Can I use the longer interval?
Usually, if the manual's normal schedule fits your driving. Towing, dirt roads and the cold starts up on the plateau push a vehicle toward the severe schedule; we go through it with you.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Drive in Monday through Friday 9 to 5 or Saturday 9 to 3.
