The Gardnerville service center on US Highway 395
Gardnerville, US Highway 395

Gardnerville Ranchos is the biggest community in Douglas County, bigger than Gardnerville and Minden put together, and it is a commuter's town. The Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 estimates count 12,114 people in 4,837 households in the Ranchos CDP, with 2.29 vehicles per household, 75.6 percent owning two or more, a median household income of $87,785 and a 28.6-minute commute with 81.6 percent driving alone, the highest drive-alone share on this site. The 89460 ZIP around it holds 14,534 residents and 2.36 vehicles per household. Almost every one of those commutes starts with Kimmerling or Centerville to US-395, and the service center is on US-395 at the far end of Gardnerville, ten minutes along and on the way to Carson.

The route out of the Ranchos

From the Riverview and Tillman Lane side, take Kimmerling Road east to US-395 and turn north; follow the highway through downtown Gardnerville and the service center is on the left on US-395 North, past the Southgate service centers near Industrial Way. From the Centerville Lane side, Centerville east to US-395 is the same from there. OSRM's free-flow time from the Ranchos centroid is 10 minutes and 4.5 miles.

Hours are Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3, closed Sunday. For a Ranchos commuter headed to Carson, the service center is on the way out of the valley; for a Saturday, it is between the Ranchos and the stores.

The highest drive-alone share on the map

81.6 percent of Ranchos workers drive alone on a 28.6-minute commute (ACS 2020-2024), which means a lot of single-occupant vehicles putting on 50 miles a day, most of it US-395 at highway speed. That is the gentle kind of mileage for an engine and the fast kind for the odometer. AAA's guidance is that many modern engines on synthetic go 5,000 to 7,500 miles and the owner's manual sets the number; at 50 miles a day the number comes around every four to six months. Our full synthetic oil change is the usual pick for the commuter, and the email club reminder keeps the interval from slipping.

The second vehicle, at 2.29 per household, is often the truck, and the truck tows. The towing guide covers the transmission, differential and transfer case fluids a trailer puts on the list.

Douglas County needs no smog check

Gardnerville Ranchos is in Douglas County, which is not an emissions county under the Nevada DMV program; only the urban parts of Washoe and Clark counties test, so a Ranchos-registered vehicle renews without a smog check (DMV emission program page, read 10/15/26). Families that moved down from Reno and still carry a Washoe address need the yearly test until the address changes; our Reno service centers do it and send the result to the DMV electronically.

The Nevada smog check page explains which addresses test and which do not.

  • Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties do not test (Nevada DMV)
  • A used car bought with Reno plates needs the test until it is re-registered in Douglas County
  • Diesel pickups registered here need no test

Valley cold, valley dust

The Minden station's NOAA normals show 188 freezing nights a year, 75 at 20 F or below and 21.8 inches of snow, with 68 days at 90 F or above and 9.34 inches of precipitation. The Ranchos sit on the valley floor where the cold settles and the summer dust blows off the Carson River bottomland. The battery check from October, the coolant freeze point, the wipers and both air filters are the items the multi-point check covers at every oil change, and we show you each one before anything is replaced.

Google rates the Gardnerville service center 4.8 stars across 85 reviews as of 10/15/26. The reviews say quick and honest; honest in the bay means the decision stays with you. Ten minutes from the Ranchos on the road you already drive, the oil sticker is the easiest errand of the week.

Gardnerville

Staff did a top quality oil change and added necessary top off fluids to my gear boxes. Also changed my air filter. Staff covered all the bases as it pertains to the scope of their services.
