Lake Tahoe is closer to downtown Carson City than most people realize. US-50 leaves town to the west and climbs to Spooner Summit at 7,146 feet, roughly 2,500 feet above the College Parkway service center at 4,683 feet (USGS 3DEP). For an automatic, that is a long climb in thin air followed by a descent to the lake, and plenty of Carson households make it every summer weekend.
Climbing grades and holding gears on the way down are both hard work for transmission fluid, and with a boat or camper on the hitch the load doubles. Toyota lists towing and severe weather among the reasons to change transmission fluid sooner, and for most makers the severe-service column lands between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. If your car does the Tahoe run often, that is probably the column for you.

Much of that is Carson Street and Highway 50 with lights every few blocks. Stop-and-go is on the same severe-service lists as towing, because every stop is a downshift and every start makes heat.
Head north on Carson Street past the Capitol and turn right on East College Parkway; the service center is at 1861, on the north side. From the east side, Roop Street or I-580 north to the College Parkway exit is just as quick.
College Parkway is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday; call (775) 883-5823. Carson City registrations do not need a smog check, so the visit is just the work you ask for.

Can’t say enough about these guys! They have been my go-to since moving to Carson city and I’ve never been disappointed. I have only used them for oil change and transmission flush but I know they do other jobs as well. Definitely give them a try
