Hidden Valley sits against the hills on the east side of the Truckee Meadows, and the way out is down Pembroke Drive or Hidden Valley Drive toward McCarran. That is a short, sunny drive with lights and a couple of climbs on the way home, enough to show whether an A/C is keeping up. There is no Census place for Hidden Valley; it falls inside the 89502 ZIP, whose mean commute is 18.6 minutes (ACS 5-year 2024).
From Hidden Valley, take Pembroke Drive west to McCarran and north to Longley Lane, or cut across on Mira Loma; the service center is at 4993 Longley Ln. OSRM routing puts it at about 8 minutes. Drive in with no appointment Monday through Friday 8 to 5 or Saturday 8 to 3.
An A/C system tells you a lot through two pressures and a vent temperature. With the engine running and the air on maximum, the technician compares the low side and high side with each other and with the outside temperature. Low on both and cool rather than cold usually means low refrigerant. No difference at all suggests the compressor is not running. A high side that climbs too far points to a condenser or fan problem. We tell you which pattern we see.
We recharge only when the system is low and holding, to the weight printed on the underhood label.
Vehicles through the mid-2010s mostly carry R-134a; most newer vehicles carry R-1234yf, which the EPA lists as the lower global-warming refrigerant. The two have different fittings and machines, and we have both. If the readings say the refrigerant is escaping, a recharge will not last, and the job belongs to an A/C repair shop. We do not do A/C repairs, and we will say so.
The Reno-Tahoe airport, about two miles from Hidden Valley, averages 65 days a year at 90 F or hotter and a July average high of 93.9 F (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). The east side gets the full afternoon sun with little tree cover. Come in May or early June.
