The A/C service at Longley Lane puts gauges on the system, checks vent temperature, compressor engagement, belt and hoses, and recharges with the correct refrigerant only when the charge is low. With about 65 days a year at 90 F or hotter in Reno, it is a May or June job, not a July emergency.
The airport cell phone lot in July is the hardest test an air conditioner gets in Reno: engine idling, no airflow through the condenser, sun on the roof, a long wait. A system that is a little low on refrigerant cools fine at freeway speed and gives up right there. Our Longley Lane service center is a few minutes from that lot, and the A/C service here is built to catch that system before the heat does.
What the service is and is not
The technician starts the engine, runs the A/C on max and measures the vent temperature, then connects a gauge set to the service ports and reads the high and low side pressures. The compressor clutch, belt, visible hoses and condenser face get a look. If the readings show a low charge, the system is recharged with the refrigerant it was built for, R-134a on most vehicles through the mid-2010s and R-1234yf on most since, to the weight the manufacturer lists, with the right oil. If the readings are normal and the air is cold, nothing is added, because overcharging hurts cooling and the compressor.
The service center does not replace compressors, condensers, evaporators, blend doors or blower motors, and it does not do leak repair. A system that needs a recharge every spring has a leak; the technician will say so and the A/C recharge guide explains what a recharge can and cannot buy you.
The south Reno heat load
The Reno airport station, which is a short way north of the service center, averages about 65 days a year at 90 F or hotter and 6 at 100 F or more, with July running about 24 days at 90 or above and August about 22 (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). The service center sits at about 4,400 feet (USGS 3DEP), where the sun is strong and a dark car parked at the Meadowood Mall lots or the airport garage is an oven by noon. Fleet vans with the doors open at every stop, pickups idling at job sites and ride-share cars circling the terminal all work the system harder than a commuter does.
When to have it looked at
Before the heat, every year or two; our What's Due tool uses a general inspect-before-summer marker and the manual overrides it. If the air is already warm, A/C blowing warm lists what else it can be, from a tripped pressure switch to a slipping belt, then bring it in and let the gauges decide.
Getting here
Mill Street exit off I-580, east to Longley Lane, south to the bays next to the car wash. Monday to Friday 8 to 5, Saturday 8 to 3, no appointment. South Reno is about 5 minutes away, the airport area and Hidden Valley about 8, Damonte Ranch about 9, Sparks, Caughlin Ranch and Midtown about 10 (OSRM free-flow drive times, 2026). Have the system checked in May with the oil change and the first hot run to Pyramid Lake will be a cold one.
Any full-service oil change, conventional, synthetic blend or full synthetic, with the multi-point maintenance check.

Can you tell me if I have a leak?
The pressures and a visual inspection give a strong hint, and a system that is low again after a recharge confirms it. Pinpointing and repairing the leak is a repair-shop job.
Does the service include a cabin filter?
Not automatically. Ask for it; a clogged cabin filter is a common reason the vents feel weak even when the system is cold.
Can my fleet get A/C checks on a schedule?
Yes. Fleet accounts can add a pre-summer A/C check to the oil change schedule, and the record is kept with the vehicle.
