A/C service for Verdi drivers: Mae Anne Avenue, 13 minutes
Verdi drivers are about 13 minutes from our Mae Anne Avenue service center by I-80, and the A/C service there is a pressure test, a vent-temperature reading and a recharge when the refrigerant is low. When the problem is a leak or a failed part, we tell you it needs an A/C repair shop instead of selling a recharge that will not last.
Think about the I-80 grade between Verdi and the state line on a July afternoon, with the windows up and the compressor running hard. That is the drive that exposes a weak A/C. Verdi residents average a 23.1-minute commute (Census ACS 5-year 2024), most of it on the interstate, and the Reno-Tahoe airport station a few miles east averages a 93.9 F high in July with about 24 days at 90 F or hotter that month (NOAA 1991-2020 normals).
Thirteen minutes on I-80
From Verdi, head east on I-80 past Mogul, exit at Robb Drive or McCarran, and follow it to Mae Anne Avenue; the service center is at 6100 Mae Anne Ave. OSRM free-flow routing calls it about 13 minutes and 7.5 miles from the middle of town. Morning traffic into Reno adds a little; Saturday morning is usually the easiest time to come.
Signs worth a stop
Air that is cool on the freeway but warm at a light
Air that starts cold and fades after twenty minutes
A compressor that clicks on and off quickly
Water dripping inside the cabin instead of under the car
A musty smell on startup
The first three are what our gauges are for. The last two are usually the drain and the cabin filter, which we can look at; see A/C cycling on and off for more.
Recharge only when it is low
We read both pressures, compare the vent to the outside air, and check the label for the refrigerant and its charge weight. Older vehicles mostly take R-134a; most newer models use R-1234yf, which the EPA lists as the lower global-warming replacement, and the fittings differ so the two cannot be mixed. If the system is low and the readings say it is holding, we charge it to the label weight. If it is leaking, the compressor is not engaging, or the condenser is blocked, we write down what we saw and recommend an A/C repair shop.
The smoke and dust side of summer
Verdi sits in the river canyon where wildfire smoke settles on bad days, and the cabin air filter catches it. A plugged filter cuts airflow so much that a healthy A/C feels weak. Ask us to pull it during the A/C check; the smoke season page explains why. Mae Anne is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, (775) 787-1000.

What a customer said
Reno Northwest
Way better than the dealership! I'm not sure why, but it seems like the dealerships in the area all take about 2 hours (with an appointment) to change your oil. That's insane, not to mention what they want to charge you. I got my oil changed here in 15 minutes in my Silverado. The guys did a nice job. They explained my options and didn't push anything too hard. I'll be recommending this location to my friends.

Is the drive from Verdi worth it for an A/C check?
It is about 13 minutes each way, and pairing it with an oil change makes it one trip for two jobs.
What if my A/C is leaking?
We do not repair leaks. We tell you what the readings show and that it needs an A/C repair shop.
Do you work on R-1234yf systems?
Yes, with the matching equipment, charged to the weight on the label.
