Carson City Toyota's service page lists a full synthetic oil change starting at $78.95 with taxes and supplies included, and Kelley Blue Book puts a conventional oil and filter change at $35 to $75 nationally. The real number for your car depends on the oil your manual calls for and how many quarts the engine holds.
Nobody in the capital prints a single standard price for an oil change, so the useful thing is to line up the figures that are public. Two franchise dealers on South Carson Street publish menu or prepaid prices, RepairPal publishes an estimator that covers Carson City, and Kelley Blue Book publishes national ranges by oil type. We list each one below with the date we read it. Our own price is quoted when you pull in on College Parkway before any work starts, as Nevada garage law expects.

The dealer numbers on South Carson Street
Carson City's franchise dealers sit together on South Carson Street, about four miles south of our College Parkway service center. Two of them publish oil change numbers. Carson City Toyota's service page lists a full synthetic oil change starting at $78.95 and says that figure includes taxes and service center supplies. Nissan Carson City's offers page shows a synthetic oil and filter change at $49.95 with a Genuine Nissan filter and up to seven quarts, diesel models excluded, and a separate prepaid plan of five changes at under $55 each.
Those are fair reference points for a car of that brand. They are not a price for every vehicle, and a promotional figure can change month to month. If a dealer price is the one you want to compare against, read the fine print on the page that day.
Estimator and national figures
RepairPal's Carson City oil change page gives a range of $160 to $188, built from repair-shop labor rates and parts, and says it can vary from car to car. The same page breaks it out by model: a Toyota Corolla at $129 to $159, a Honda CR-V at $123 to $151, a Ford F-150 at $183 to $212. Estimator figures like these describe a full repair shop visit rather than a drive-in lube bay, which is why they sit above the dealer menus.
Kelley Blue Book's oil change guide gives the broadest national view: $35 to $75 for a conventional oil and filter change depending on your area, and $65 to $125 for synthetic. KBB also prices the do-it-yourself route at around $30 in parts for conventional and around $45 plus tax for synthetic, before your time and the trip to recycle the old oil.
Why your car may land anywhere in those ranges
Most of the spread comes from two things, the oil the manual specifies and the number of quarts. A newer Camry or CR-V on 0W-20 full synthetic is a different job from a three-quarter-ton pickup that holds twice the oil. Diesel engines take their own oil and a larger filter. Everything else, such as an engine air filter or a cabin filter added at the same visit, is a separate line on the estimate.
Carson City driving pushes some cars toward the severe-service column of the manual. The Carson City weather station averages 146 nights a year at or below freezing (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), lots of trips are short, and the drive up US 50 toward the lake is a long grade. AAA's guidance is that many modern engines on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes, and the owner's manual sets the number. A shorter interval changes what you spend per year more than the price of any single visit.
Getting a straight number at College Parkway
At our Carson City service center on East College Parkway the technician looks up your vehicle, confirms the oil grade and capacity, and tells you the total before the drain plug comes out. No appointment is needed, Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4. Nevada law requires a written estimate for garage work over a set amount and your approval before anything is added, and that is how the bay runs anyway.
If the inspection turns up a dirty air filter or low coolant, we show you and you decide. Nothing is added to the bill without a yes. Coupons for our service centers live on the coupons page, and the oil change page lists what every visit includes.
One thing Carson City drivers do not pay for
Carson City is not an emissions testing area, so a vehicle registered here does not need a smog check to renew (Nevada DMV). That keeps the yearly maintenance bill a little lighter than it is in Reno. If you also own a vehicle registered at a Reno or Sparks address, our two Reno service centers handle the smog test.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.
Is a dealer oil change in Carson City more than a quick lube?
It depends on the offer. Carson City Toyota lists full synthetic from $78.95 with taxes included, and Nissan Carson City showed a synthetic change at $49.95 on its offers page when we read it. Compare the oil type and what is included, not only the headline number.
Why is the RepairPal estimate higher than the dealer menus?
RepairPal builds its ranges from repair-shop labor rates plus parts, and its pages say the figures exclude taxes, fees and location. A drive-in bay or a dealer promotion is priced differently.
Does the price include the inspection?
At our service centers the full-service oil change includes a multi-point maintenance check, chassis lubrication where the vehicle has fittings, and resetting the oil-change light. Ask any service center what its price includes before you compare.
Do I need a smog check in Carson City?
No. Carson City is not an emissions testing area, so a vehicle registered here renews without one (Nevada DMV).
