One car is a maintenance schedule. Three cars, a trailer and a teenager's first truck are a calendar. We looked at how many households in each county, town and ZIP area around our service centers own two or more vehicles, using the Census Bureau's American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, table B08201. The generated table below lists the share with two or more vehicles beside vehicles per household; the text breaks out the households with three and four or more where the survey allows.

Highlights
- Genoa reports 90.3 percent of households with two or more vehicles, the highest of any place in our data (ACS 2020-2024).
- Spanish Springs: 34.1 percent of households own three vehicles and 20.4 percent own four or more (ACS 2020-2024, table B08201).
- Lyon County leads the counties at 75.0 percent with two or more, and 14.2 percent of its households own four or more (ACS 2020-2024).
- Reno city: 56.0 percent with two or more, but 8.4 percent of households own no vehicle (ACS 2020-2024).
- Midtown and downtown Reno (89501): only 14.1 percent of households own two or more (ACS 2020-2024).

Ranked
The multi-vehicle towns
The highest shares are in the semi-rural places around the valleys. Genoa reports 90.3 percent of households with two or more vehicles, Spanish Springs 88.5 percent, Verdi 88.4, Golden Valley 87.6, Washoe Valley (89704) 87.4, Mogul 85.7, Lemmon Valley 85.2 and Johnson Lane 83.5 (ACS 2020-2024). Several of those are small places with wide survey margins, but the pattern is consistent: the farther from a town center, the more vehicles per home.
Spanish Springs stands out for depth, not just breadth. About 34.1 percent of its households own three vehicles and another 20.4 percent own four or more (ACS 2020-2024, table B08201). That is more than half of households with three or more.
County by county
Lyon County households are the most likely in the region to own several vehicles: 39.8 percent own two, 21.0 percent three and 14.2 percent four or more (ACS 2020-2024). Douglas County is close behind with 39.0, 21.7 and 12.9 percent. Washoe County splits 37.0 percent two, 16.6 percent three and 9.5 percent four or more, and Carson City 34.5, 17.2 and 10.4 percent. Nevada as a whole sits at 36.0, 14.8 and 7.5.
The single-vehicle and no-vehicle households cluster in the cities. In Reno, 35.6 percent of households own one vehicle and 8.4 percent own none (ACS 2020-2024).
- Lyon County: 75.0 percent with two or more vehicles (ACS 2020-2024)
- Douglas County: 73.5 percent
- Storey County: 65.6 percent
- Washoe County: 63.1 percent
- Carson City: 62.1 percent
- Nevada: 58.4 percent
The city exceptions
Inside Reno, the share drops sharply near downtown. Midtown and downtown (89501) reports 14.1 percent of households with two or more vehicles, the University and North Reno area (89512) 42.8 percent, southeast Reno and the airport area (89502) 49.9 percent and the old northwest around Rancho San Rafael (89503) 51.2 percent (ACS 2020-2024). Gardnerville's town center, as distinct from the Ranchos, reports 52.9 percent.
Those are apartment-heavy and walkable areas with younger and smaller households. Two miles out, in northwest Reno (89523) and South Reno (89511), the share is back to 64.9 and 69.9 percent.
Keeping several vehicles on schedule
A household with three or four vehicles usually has one that is driven hard, one that sits, and one that tows or hauls. Each has its own interval: miles for the commuter, months for the one that sits, the severe schedule for the tow vehicle. Our My Garage page holds every vehicle in the household with its own next-due date, and the email club sends a reminder per vehicle so the one in the side yard does not get forgotten.
Bring as many as you like; the four service centers take them one after another without appointments. The income and vehicle ownership page shows how car count tracks income, and the every 10,000 miles checklist helps keep each one straight.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.
Which towns near your service centers have the most multi-vehicle households?
Genoa, Spanish Springs, Verdi, Golden Valley and Washoe Valley all report about 87 to 90 percent of households with two or more vehicles (ACS 2020-2024).
What share of Reno households own no car?
About 8.4 percent in the city of Reno, and about 41 percent in the Midtown and downtown ZIP 89501 (ACS 2020-2024).
Can My Garage track more than one vehicle?
Yes. Add each vehicle by year, make and model or by VIN, and each gets its own reminder settings.
Why do these percentages differ from vehicles per household?
Vehicles per household is an average; the two-or-more share counts households. A few households with many vehicles can raise the average without changing the share much.
