Oil change for East Sparks and Vista drivers, 27 minutes away at Reno South (Longley Lane)

East Sparks and Vista are about 27 minutes and 13 miles from our Longley Lane service center by I-80 west and I-580 south (OSRM free-flow routing, 10/15/26). It is a real drive, so we suggest making it do two jobs: the full-service oil change and the Washoe smog check, in one bay, no appointment.

Reno South, Longley Lane

Vista Boulevard, Wingfield Hills and the streets off Sparks Boulevard are the far end of our Reno draw. We say so plainly because the honest minute count is what lets you plan: 27 minutes free-flow, more at the Spaghetti Bowl at 5 p.m. The pages below cover what makes the trip worth it, what the I-80 commute to the industrial center does to an engine, and what happens when you get here.

Making one trip do everything

A vehicle registered in Sparks is inside the Washoe County emissions-testing area and needs an annual smog check once it is past its first three registrations (Nevada DMV). Longley Lane tests and changes oil in the same bay, the test result goes to the DMV electronically and is valid 90 days, so you can renew online the same evening. Add the multi-point check that comes with every oil change and the drive buys three things at once. Time it with a trip to the airport, Costco or the south Reno offices and the extra minutes mostly vanish.

The I-80 commute, both directions

The mean commute in 89434 is 22.9 minutes and households average 1.92 vehicles (Census ACS 5-year 2024). A lot of those commutes run east on I-80 and USA Parkway to the warehouses and plants out at the industrial center, and a lot run west into Reno. Long freeway runs at steady speed are the easiest miles oil ever sees: the engine stays at full temperature and moisture burns off. The hard miles are the ones at either end, in the cold. The Reno airport station logs 122 nights a year at or below freezing (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and a 6 a.m. start in January on thick oil is where most engine wear happens. Summer flips it: 65 days at 90 degrees or hotter (NOAA), with the hottest oil temperatures in the stop-and-go at Vista and Sparks Boulevard.

AAA's guidance is that many modern engines on synthetic oil go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes, with the owner's manual setting the number and severe service shortening it. A pure freeway commuter here may sit at the top of its manual's range; a work truck that idles at a loading dock belongs at the bottom. We write the sticker to fit.

The route

From Vista Boulevard or Sparks Boulevard, get on I-80 west, take I-580 south at the Spaghetti Bowl, exit at Mill Street, and follow Longley Lane south along the airport to 4993 Longley Ln. OSRM calls it about 27 minutes and 13.4 miles. Greg Street to Rock Boulevard to South McCarran is the surface-street alternative when the freeway is backed up. Mae Anne Avenue is about 31 minutes, so Longley Lane is the East Sparks service center.

The full-service oil change

  1. Drive in, no appointment; the car stays in the bay with you.
  2. We match the oil to your cap and manual, conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic, high-mileage or diesel, and fill with up to 5 quarts with a new oil filter.
  3. Chassis grease points are lubricated where the manufacturer specifies them.
  4. Engine air filter out and shown to you; transmission, brake, power steering, radiator and washer fluids checked; tire pressure set; headlights, tail lights and wipers checked; cabin filter and battery test on request.
  5. Oil-change light reset, findings explained, your decision on anything more.

Hours and phone

Longley Lane is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 3, closed Sunday, at (775) 828-6996. The East Sparks smog check page has the DMV rules for your registration. Bring the renewal notice, and the whole errand is done in one visit.

Reno South

Great group working at this oil change shop. They remember me every time and know exactly what I want done with my cars. You can eat at the nearby Vietnamese restaurant while you wait. Great option for a quick oil change!

Questions people ask

Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.

Is it really worth driving 27 minutes for an oil change?

On its own, maybe not. With the smog check, the inspection and a locally owned service center that has been here since 1983, most East Sparks drivers who come once come back.

Which service center is closer to Vista, Longley or Mae Anne?

Longley Lane, about 27 minutes by OSRM routing; Mae Anne Avenue is about 31.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Drive in Monday through Friday 8 to 5 or Saturday 8 to 3.

Can I renew my registration the same day?

Once the smog result is sent to the DMV electronically, online renewal is open to you (Nevada DMV), so usually yes.
