Cabin Air Filter for Work Vans
Work vans like the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster carry a cabin air filter, though its location varies more than in cars, and we check and replace it on request during an oil change at all four service centers. The Car Care Council's guidance is about 12,000 to 15,000 miles or once a year; a van doing deliveries with the doors open all day usually needs it on the shorter end.

A delivery or trades van spends its day stopping, opening doors and running the blower. Drivers sit in that cab for eight hours, and the van's open cargo area means dust from the job site circulates freely. For a fleet manager, the cabin filter is an inexpensive line item that drivers actually notice, and it is easy to fold into the oil-change visit so the van does not come off the road twice.

Where to find it in a van
Layouts differ by model and year. Some vans have the filter behind the glove box like a car, some put it under the dash on the passenger side behind a panel, and some place it under the hood near the cowl. A few older cargo vans were built without one. The technician checks your van's layout and confirms the right part before replacing anything.
Records for fleet vans
If the van is on a fleet account, we note the cabin filter on the service record along with the oil change and maintenance check, so the next driver or the office knows when it was done. That makes it easy to put the filter on a set schedule across the whole fleet rather than waiting for complaints.

How often a van needs it
Check the van's owner's manual or the maker's maintenance schedule; most list a severe-service option for dust, short trips and long idling, which fits delivery work. The Car Care Council's general interval is 12,000 to 15,000 miles or yearly. A van that works construction sites around Reno or the dirt lots out in the North Valleys can load a filter in far fewer miles.
In the bay
The driver pulls into the bay and stays with the van. During the maintenance check, the technician pulls the filter on request and shows it. Approve the replacement or not; nothing is added without a yes. Most vans fit our drive-in bays, but if yours is unusually tall, call the service center first.
Why it is worth doing here
With roughly 65 days a year at 90 F or hotter in Reno (NOAA 1991-2020 normals) and smoke season in late summer, a van's climate system works hard for months. A clean filter keeps the A/C airflow up for the driver, and keeps the windshield defrost working on the 122 or so freezing mornings a year.

Questions people ask
Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.
Do you service Transit and ProMaster vans?
Yes. We check the layout for your model and year and match the filter to it.
Can you keep records for our company vans?
Yes. Fleet vans get a service record with each visit, including whether the cabin filter was checked or replaced.
Will a high-roof van fit?
Most vans fit the bays. For an unusually tall van, call the service center before you come in.
Is there a separate filter for the rear of the van?
Usually not. A rear heater or A/C unit, if equipped, typically recirculates cabin air.
