Acura Integra Oil Change: 1.5 Turbo and Type S

The Integra has no fixed oil interval; Acura's Maintenance Minder calls for service when oil life reaches 15 percent and shows it due at 5 percent, and Acura still wants the car in at least once a year. Honda's published specifications for the 2023 and newer Integra list 3.7 US quarts with the filter of Acura Genuine Motor Oil 0W-20 or an API SN-or-higher 0W-20 for the 1.5-liter turbo, and 5.7 US quarts with the filter for the Type S's 2.0-liter turbo.

Aerial view of a winding mountain road through snow near Donner Pass

The Integra came back for 2023 as a five-door liftback, and in Northern Nevada it is the car people take over Donner Pass on I-80 for a Truckee ski day or out to Verdi on the old highway. Two engines matter: the 1.5-liter turbo four in the base, A-Spec and A-Spec Technology cars, and the 2.0-liter turbo four in the Type S that arrived for 2024. Both are small, high-output engines, and both follow the Maintenance Minder rather than a sticker on the windshield.

At a glance

  • 1.5-liter turbo: 0W-20, 3.7 US qt with the filter (Honda specifications)
  • Type S 2.0-liter turbo: 5.7 US qt with the filter (Honda specifications)
  • Maintenance Minder: 15 percent warning, 5 percent service due, at least once a year
  • CVT on most 1.5 cars, six-speed manual on A-Spec Technology and every Type S

Reading the Maintenance Minder

Acura's Maintenance Minder guide explains the system in Acura's terms: the display shows the remaining engine oil life, a message appears at 15 percent, and at 5 percent it says service is due now. Each message carries a main code and sub-codes. A is an oil change, B is an oil and filter change with an inspection, and numbered codes add items such as tire rotation (1), engine and cabin air filters (2) or transmission fluid (3).

We read the code on your dash before we start, do the oil and filter, tell you what the sub-codes ask for and reset the Minder to 100 percent. If your Integra has not asked for service but it has been a year, it is still due.

Oil and capacity by engine

The 1.5's sump is small, so a quart low is a large share of its oil. We fill to the full mark on the dipstick, not to a number on a chart. On a Type S we read the grade from the cap and the manual and pour that.

I-80, Donner and the small turbo

Donner Summit sits at about 7,200 feet on I-80, and the climb from Verdi asks a 1.5-liter turbo to make full boost for a long stretch in thin air. That heat goes into the oil, and the Maintenance Minder counts it. In winter, Reno's roughly 122 freezing nights a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals) mean cold starts, which is when a 0W-20 earns its place. For mountain driving the honest advice is simple: let the Minder decide, and do not wait past the 5 percent message.

CVT, manual gearbox and coolant

Most 1.5 Integras use a CVT with Honda's own fluid, and its change comes up as a Minder sub-code 3. The six-speed manual uses Honda manual transmission fluid on its own schedule. We check for leaks and follow the code. Our CVT fluid guide explains why the fluid type matters on a belt-and-pulley transmission.

Honda's long-life coolant is pre-mixed and changes on a long interval. We check its level and condition at every visit.

What we do on an Integra

  • No appointment at any of our four service centers.
  • Minder code read, 0W-20 or the grade on your cap poured, new filter, level checked on the dipstick.
  • Engine air filter and cabin filter pulled and shown, which is the sub-code 2 item.
  • Tires, lights, wipers, brake fluid level and a battery test at participating locations.
  • Maintenance Minder reset to 100 percent.

Questions people ask

Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.

How much oil does a 2023 Integra take?

Honda's specifications list 3.7 US quarts with the filter of 0W-20 for the 1.5-liter turbo.

Does the Integra Type S take more oil?

Yes. Its 2.0-liter turbo is listed at 5.7 US quarts with the filter. We read the grade from the cap and the manual.

What does B12 mean on my Integra?

B is an oil and filter change with an inspection, 1 is a tire rotation and 2 is the engine and cabin air filters, per Acura's Maintenance Minder guide.

My Minder still shows 40 percent but it has been a year. Do I need an oil change?

Yes. Acura wants the car serviced at least once a year even if the oil life has not run down.

Do you change CVT fluid on an Integra?

We check it at every visit and handle the change when the Minder shows sub-code 3, using Honda's specified fluid.
