Ford Maverick Oil Change: Hybrid 0W-20 or EcoBoost 5W-30
Ford's 2024 Maverick Owner's Manual lists SAE 0W-20 for the 2.5-liter hybrid at 5.7 quarts with the filter, and SAE 5W-30 for the 2.0-liter EcoBoost at 5.49 quarts. The Intelligent Oil Life Monitor sets the interval, and Ford's manual says to change the oil within two weeks or 500 miles of the alert.

The Maverick sold well here for the same reason it sold everywhere: a small pickup with a real bed that fits in a garage. It comes two ways, and they are not interchangeable at the oil pump. The 2.5-liter hybrid, standard in early trucks, uses a thin 0W-20. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo, the engine many AWD and Tremor trucks carry, uses 5W-30 to a different Ford specification. Pour the wrong one and the truck runs, which is why the mistake is so common. We confirm the engine before anything drains.
At a glance
- 2.5-liter hybrid: SAE 0W-20 to WSS-M2C962-A1, 5.7 qt with filter (2024 Maverick Owner's Manual)
- 2.0-liter EcoBoost: SAE 5W-30 to WSS-M2C961-A1, 5.49 qt with filter
- Interval: the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor; change within two weeks or 500 miles of the alert
- Hybrid cooling: a low-temperature circuit of 4.8 qt and a high-temperature circuit of 11.7 qt

Hybrid or EcoBoost: the spec sheet
Ford asks for oil that meets the listed specification and carries the API certification mark, and says not to use supplemental oil additives. Those are the two numbers we look for on the bottle: the grade and the Ford spec. The hybrid's split cooling system is the other thing that sets it apart; the low-temperature loop serves the hybrid electronics, and both loops take the same yellow coolant spec.

How the oil life monitor decides
The Maverick has no printed mileage on the dash. Ford's Intelligent Oil Life Monitor judges oil life from how the truck is actually driven, and the manual notes it can call for a change before your general service is due. Ford's 2024 manual says that once the alert appears, the oil should be changed within two weeks or 500 miles.
A hybrid Maverick that mostly runs town errands can show a long interval because the engine is off so often. One that hauls a bed of pavers out of Sparks every weekend will see a shorter one. Both are working as designed. We reset the monitor when we finish so the next countdown is honest.
Dirt lots, turbo intakes and Spanish Springs dust
For EcoBoost trucks, Ford's air filter page warns that the engine and turbocharger are susceptible to damage from even small particles, and tells the owner to keep foreign material out of the intake. That is worth taking seriously in a valley that gets about 7.35 inches of rain a year on the NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals. A Maverick that lives on a dirt pad in Spanish Springs or Lemmon Valley breathes a lot of fine dust.
We pull the engine air filter at every visit and hold it up to the light with you. The cabin filter sits behind the glove compartment, and we check that one too.
A Maverick visit
- Drive in at any of our four service centers; no appointment needed.
- We read the engine label, match the grade and Ford spec, drain and fit a new filter.
- Fluids, coolant level on both hybrid loops where fitted, battery, belts, lights and wipers get checked.
- We reset the oil life monitor and walk you through anything we found. You decide what happens next.

What a customer said
I have a 2018 Ford Raptor with a ADD off-road bumper. Unfortunately the bumper manufacturers didn’t design the bumper for it routine oil changes. So the shop I went to, went out of their way and figured out a way to do the oil change. Couldn’t be more happy with their dedication and service. They have my business for all my vehicles now.
