INFINITI QX60 Oil Change: Three Generations, Three Schedules

Every QX60 takes 0W-20 synthetic, about 5 quarts with the filter, but the interval depends on the year: INFINITI's maintenance schedule lists 7,500 miles or 6 months (5,000 severe) for the 2020 V6, 10,000 miles or 12 months for the 2022 to 2024 V6, and 7,500 miles or 12 months for the 2025 2.0-liter VC-Turbo. The 2024 manual lists 5-1/8 quarts with the filter for the V6 and the 2025 manual 5 quarts for the turbo four.

The QX60 is a three-row family hauler, and in Northern Nevada that means summer traffic on South Virginia Street with the A/C on, a trip over Donner Summit to Truckee with a car-top carrier, and a lot of short school runs in Sparks on freezing mornings. INFINITI has changed the engine and the transmission over the model's life, and the oil interval moved with them. Here is the grade, the fill and the published interval for each generation, plus the transmission and AWD items that come with each.

At a glance

  • 2014-2020 3.5L V6 with CVT: 0W-20, 5-1/8 qt with filter; 2020 schedule 7,500 mi or 6 months, 5,000 severe
  • 2022-2024 3.5L V6 with nine-speed: 0W-20 SP, 5-1/8 qt; 10,000 mi or 12 months
  • 2025-on 2.0L VC-Turbo with nine-speed: 0W-20 SP, 5 qt; 7,500 mi or 12 months
  • 2025 schedule: in-cabin microfilter every 11,250 miles or 18 months

QX60 by generation

Earlier QX60s ran shorter still: INFINITI's schedule for the 2016 model reads replace every 5,000 miles or 6 months. If yours is a 2014 to 2019, we look up its exact year before setting the sticker. The current manuals name Nissan Motor Oil 0W-20 SP or, if it is unavailable, a synthetic 0W-20 GF-6A SP oil.

Summer traffic and the severe list

INFINITI's severe conditions include operating in hot weather in stop-and-go rush hour traffic. Reno averages about 65 days a year at 90 F or hotter, about 24 of them in July alone (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals). A loaded QX60 crawling through Meadowood traffic in July fits the description, and on a 2020 model that moves the oil change to 5,000 miles or six months.

On the 2025 turbo, the oil control system does that math for you. Its manual lists towing, car-top carriers, short trips and mountainous areas as conditions that bring the reminder on early, and says to change the oil within two weeks or 500 miles of the indicator. The I-80 climb to Donner Summit with a full cabin and a roof box counts.

CVT, nine-speed and AWD fluids

The 2020 QX60 uses a CVT with Nissan's NS-3 fluid, and INFINITI's 2020 schedule inspects it every 15,000 miles or 12 months and replaces it at 60,000 miles under severe driving. The 2022 and newer trucks use a conventional nine-speed automatic with Matic R fluid, and INFINITI's 2024 and 2025 schedules replace it at 90,000 miles. Those are two different fluids, never interchangeable, and our transmission fluid service uses the one your manual names.

AWD models carry differential and transfer case oil. The 2025 schedule inspects both every 7,500 miles or 12 months and replaces them every 15,000 miles or 24 months on the severe column, which includes towing. Front-wheel-drive QX60s skip those items.

Our QX60 visit

  • Year and engine confirmed, 0W-20 to the cap, a new filter and the maintenance reminder reset
  • In-cabin microfilter and engine air filter pulled and shown; the 2025 schedule lists 11,250 miles or 18 months and 30,000 miles or 48 months
  • Differential and transfer case levels on AWD models
  • Coolant level, using Nissan's blue Long Life type when topping up
  • Battery test at participating locations, belts, lights, wipers and tire pressure, rear wiper included
