Lincoln Nautilus Oil Change: Gas, Hybrid and the Tahoe Footnote
The 2025 Lincoln Nautilus Owner's Manual lists the same oil for both engines, the 2.0-liter gasoline turbo and the 2.0-liter full hybrid: SAE 5W-30 meeting Ford WSS-M2C961-A1, 6.1 quarts with the filter. The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor sets the interval, the manual caps it at one year or 10,000 miles, and it says hybrids may go further between changes but never past a year.

The Nautilus is the Lincoln we see most on Tahoe runs. A Reno family heads up the Mount Rose Highway on a Saturday in January, parks at a ski lot high above the lake, and drives home in the dark. The second-generation Nautilus that arrived for 2024 offers a hybrid alongside the turbo four, and the manual has something specific to say about altitude and cold. This page covers both engines, how the hybrid changes the oil picture, and what we check in the bay.
At a glance
- 2.0L gasoline and 2.0L full hybrid: SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C961-A1, 6.1 qt with filter (2025 Nautilus manual)
- Do not exceed one year or 10,000 miles; hybrids may run longer but not past one year
- SAE 0W-30 recommended if regularly driven above 5,000 ft below minus 4 F
- Cabin air filter replaced every 20,000 miles in the 2025 manual

Both engines, one oil
It is unusual for a hybrid and a gas version to share an oil and a fill, but the 2025 manual prints the two capacity pages side by side with the same numbers. First-generation Nautilus models from 2019 to 2023 used turbocharged engines too; we read their caps before we pour.
| Nautilus engine | Oil and Ford spec | Capacity with filter | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.0L gasoline turbo (2024 on) | SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C961-A1 | 6.1 qt | 2025 Nautilus Owner's Manual |
| 2.0L full hybrid, FHEV (2024 on) | SAE 5W-30, WSS-M2C961-A1 | 6.1 qt | 2025 Nautilus Owner's Manual |
| Cold or high-altitude alternative | SAE 0W-30, WSS-M2C963-A1 | same fill | 2025 Nautilus Owner's Manual |

The hybrid and the one-year rule
A full hybrid shuts its engine off at stops and at low speed, so the oil sees fewer revolutions per mile. The 2025 manual acknowledges that: hybrid vehicles may achieve longer distances between oil changes, but do not exceed the one-year maximum. In practice, a Nautilus hybrid that mostly runs errands around Sparks may reach its anniversary with oil life to spare, and the calendar decides.
The flip side is that the engine still starts cold, often many times a day, and Reno averages about 122 nights a year at or below freezing (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals). If the monitor flags the oil early, the manual recommends replacing it within two weeks or 500 miles of the alert. Our hybrid oil change page covers what we do differently on a hybrid, starting with confirming the engine is off and in service mode before we touch it.
Why a Reno shop talks about 5,000 feet
The manual's cold-climate note reads: if you use your vehicle regularly above 5,000 feet and under minus 4 F, the alternative SAE 0W-30 is recommended. Our service centers are below that line, between about 4,400 and 4,900 feet (USGS elevation data), but Incline Village, the Tahoe basin and the ski areas are well above it. A Nautilus garaged in Incline, or one that lives at a cabin above Truckee for the season, fits the wording.
Most Reno and Carson City drivers stay on 5W-30. If your driving matches the footnote, tell us at the counter and we will show you the line in the manual and pour the alternative grade.
Our Nautilus visit, step by step
- Confirm gas or hybrid and read the oil cap
- Drain, fit a new filter and refill to the dipstick with oil meeting WSS-M2C961-A1, or the 0W-30 alternative if your driving calls for it
- Pull the cabin air filter, which the 2025 manual replaces every 20,000 miles, and the engine air filter, and show both to you
- Check coolant, the AWD rear drive unit for leaks, lights, wipers and tire pressure, and test the battery at participating locations
- Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor and set the sticker to the monitor or twelve months
