Nissan Rogue Oil Change: 2.5 or VC-Turbo
A Nissan Rogue through the 2023 model year with the 2.5-liter four takes 0W-20 synthetic, and the 2022 and newer Rogue with the 1.5-liter VC-Turbo three-cylinder also lists 0W-20 on its cap. Kelley Blue Book's summary of Nissan's schedule says every 5,000 miles or six months, and the oil filter goes with every change.

The Rogue is Nissan's best seller and a common sight in Sparks and Spanish Springs driveways, where households own more cars than almost anywhere in the region: 2.74 vehicles per household in Spanish Springs (ACS 2020-2024). A compact SUV that does school runs, Costco trips and a weekend at the lake is exactly the vehicle Nissan's severe-use notes were written for.

Short trips, cold mornings, and the six-month mark
Kelley Blue Book's Nissan maintenance schedule calls for oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first, and says dusty, desert-like or mountainous driving may require more frequent changes. The Service and Maintenance Guide for your exact year, available on Nissan USA's owners site, is the final word.
A Spanish Springs Rogue spends a lot of its life on short trips along the Pyramid Highway, and the Reno area averages 122 freezing nights a year (NOAA 1991 to 2020). Short cold-start trips never let the oil fully warm, which is why the six-month date matters even on a low-mileage Rogue.
The 1.5-liter VC-Turbo
When Nissan moved the Rogue to its third-generation body in 2021, the engine was still a 2.5-liter four; for 2022 it switched to a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with variable compression. It is a small engine doing a big job, and turbo oil runs hot. Our rule is simple: the grade on the cap, full synthetic, changed on schedule, and nothing stretched.
CVT and all-wheel drive on a Rogue
- CVT: every Rogue uses Nissan's Xtronic CVT and Nissan CVT fluid; the KBB schedule lists inspection at service intervals. See CVT fluid explained.
- AWD Rogues add a transfer unit and a rear final drive, each with its own gear oil; differential service covers them.
- Cabin air filter: the KBB schedule lists replacement, and smoke season is the reason to do it before summer ends.
- Coolant: Nissan Long Life coolant; we check level and condition and do not mix types.
How a Rogue visit goes
Pull in at 4993 Longley Ln, the closest of our service centers to Sparks, or any of the other three. No appointment. We confirm the grade, drain, swap the filter and refill, then run the multi-point maintenance check while you wait: filters, belts, coolant, brake fluid, battery at participating locations, tire pressure, lights and wipers. We reset the maintenance reminder, put the date on the sticker and tell you what we saw.

What a customer said
I am glad I chose to take my care here. The mechanic changed my oil, transmission fluid, and air filter for me in no time at all. And I was very thankful that he stayed later than they are open just to service my car.
