Wiper blades for Indian Hills and South Carson drivers: Carson City (College Parkway), 15 minutes
Indian Hills is about 15 minutes and 9.8 miles from our College Parkway service center by US-395 and I-580 north, and about 21 minutes from our Gardnerville service center going south; both replace wiper blades while you wait. The Car Care Council recommends inspecting blades twice a year, and either service center can do it with no appointment.
Indian Hills sits right on the line between Carson City and the Carson Valley, in Douglas County, with Jacks Valley and the Carson Range to the west. That puts it between two weather stations with quite different winters. The Carson City station averages about 146 freezing nights a year; the Minden station, down the valley, averages about 188, with 75 nights at 20 degrees or colder (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Indian Hills mornings fall somewhere in that range, and either way, that is a lot of frost.
Frost is the main event
With that many cold nights, a lot of Indian Hills winter mornings start with a frozen windshield. The rubber edge of a wiper blade freezes to the glass, and switching the wipers on before it thaws tears the edge. The damage is small, but the streak it leaves is permanent. Run the defroster and scrape first, keep the reservoir full of a winter-rated washer fluid, and lift the blades off the glass before a storm if the car sleeps outside.
Sun and snow
Carson City averages about 39.5 days a year at 90 degrees or more and about 14 inches of snow; Minden averages about 68 hot days and 21.8 inches of snow (NOAA 1991-2020). Indian Hills households average 2.18 vehicles and a median age of 55.4 (Census ACS 5-year 2024), and many of those vehicles sit in the driveway between trips. Sun hardens the rubber on a parked car whether or not it is driven, and hardened rubber chatters when it is finally needed.
Beam blades: one spring-steel strip in rubber, no frame to ice up, even pressure on the glass
Conventional blades: a hinged metal frame, the factory fit on many older vehicles
Winter blades: a conventional frame sealed in a rubber boot for snow and ice
Rear blades: their own size on SUVs and wagons
North to Carson or south to Gardnerville
Head north on US-395, which becomes I-580, to the College Parkway exit and 1861 E College Pkwy, about 15 minutes by OSRM routing; Carson City is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4. Or go south on US-395 to our Gardnerville service center at 1293 US Hwy 395 N, about 21 minutes, open Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3.
Neither needs an appointment. We check every blade, show you any worn one with the price, and you decide; washer fluid is topped off. A Douglas County registration does not require a smog check.
