For four decades we had three service centers, two in Reno and one in Carson City. In March 2023 we added a fourth, on US Highway 395 on the north side of Gardnerville, where the highway runs through the Carson Valley between Minden and the Ranchos. Annali Z. wrote in one of the first reviews that she was pleased to have this service so close to home (Google review). That was the idea. Three years in, this is where the service center stands.

The highway and the valley
US 395 is the main street of the Carson Valley, and the service center sits on it at 1293 on the north side of town. Gardnerville itself is about 3 minutes from the bay, Minden about 8, the Gardnerville Ranchos about 10, Genoa about 19 and Topaz Ranch Estates about 29 minutes down the highway (OSRM free-flow routing). Indian Hills, which splits between this service center and Carson City, is about 21 minutes.
Douglas County is a vehicle county. Households average 2.25 vehicles and 73.5 percent have two or more, the highest share of the counties we serve (Census ACS 5-year 2024). The Ranchos alone has about 12,000 people averaging 2.29 vehicles and a 29-minute commute, much of it up 395 toward Carson City and past this bay.
What the bay does in the Carson Valley
The menu matches the other three service centers: the full-service oil change with the maintenance check, transmission fluid service, differential service for the valley's trucks, coolant and power steering flushes, engine and cabin filters, A/C service, bulbs and wipers. Gene P. wrote that the staff did a top-quality oil change, topped off his gear boxes and changed his air filter (Google review).
Smog checks are not required for a vehicle registered in Douglas County, since Nevada tests only in the Washoe and Clark urban areas (Nevada DMV). The two Reno service centers always have the test on the menu.
Cold nights, hot days and the differential
The Minden weather station tells the story of this bay. It averages 188 nights a year at or below freezing, 75 nights at or below 20 F and two at or below 0 F, and it also averages 68 days at 90 F or hotter (NOAA 1991-2020). That is a bigger swing than Reno or Carson City, which is why battery tests and coolant checks are the fall rush here and why the right oil grade on the cap matters in January.
The valley also runs more trucks, more trailers and more gravel roads than the Reno neighborhoods, and all three are on the severe-service list in the manual. The differential and transfer case checks that are on request elsewhere get asked for more often here. Michael T. came in for a lube, oil and filters and planned the transmission and transaxle service for the next month (Google review).
- Minden: 188 freezing nights, 75 at or below 20 F (NOAA 1991-2020)
- Minden: 68 days at or above 90 F, nearly the same as Reno
- Douglas County: 2.25 vehicles per household (Census ACS 2024)
What the first 85 reviewers said
Three years is not long, and 85 reviews is the smallest count of our four service centers, but the themes are already the same. Victoria W. wrote that the guys are always friendly and knowledgeable and she would not take her truck anywhere else. Michael E. said it was quick, they showed him the filter and asked if he wanted to replace it. Sierra S. got an oil change on her lunch break and still had time to grab a bite. Stephanie P. called it a cool place to sit and get out of the heat while they worked. All Google reviews.
Hours are a little different from the Reno and Carson City service centers: Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3, closed Sunday. If you are in Gardnerville, Minden, the Ranchos, Genoa or anywhere down 395, the bay at 1293 US Hwy 395 N is open with no appointment, and three years in, it is as much a part of the valley as the service centers in Reno are of theirs.
