From Midtown and Downtown Reno, our Longley Lane service center is about 10 minutes and 3.8 miles by South Virginia or I-580 (OSRM routing, 10/15/26), and transmission fluid service is done there while you wait. A car that mostly idles at lights or sits for days still ages its fluid, so the calendar matters as much as the odometer here.

Downtown 89501 is the least car-dependent part of the region. Households average 0.78 vehicles and only 14.1 percent own two or more (Census ACS 5-year 2024). If you do own a car downtown, it probably lives one of two lives: short hops along Virginia Street with long waits at lights, or days parked between trips. Neither one racks up miles, and both are hard on transmission fluid in their own way.
Stop-and-go driving is on Toyota's list of reasons to change transmission fluid sooner. Every light is a downshift and every green is the torque converter working, and Midtown traffic delivers a lot of both in a mile. A car that sits, meanwhile, never reaches full operating temperature often enough to drive off moisture. The result can be fluid that looks older than its mileage.
Because of that, a mileage interval alone can mislead downtown drivers. We read the manual for both the miles and the months, then look at the fluid and go by what we see.
Take South Virginia past Plumb Lane, east on Peckham or South McCarran, then south on Longley Lane to number 4993 near the airport. From the Spaghetti Bowl, I-580 south to the Mill Street exit and south on Longley works too. Mae Anne Avenue is about 13 minutes if you are north of the river.
Pavement and traffic make downtown summers feel hotter than the airport station's numbers, which already show about 65 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). A transmission idling in July with the A/C on runs its fluid warm with no airflow to help. If the car is due anyway, early summer is a sensible time for the service.
