Transmission fluid service for Stead and the North Valleys drivers: Mae Anne Avenue, 25 minutes
From the center of 89506, Mae Anne Avenue is about 25 minutes and Longley Lane about 24 (OSRM routing, 10/15/26), so either Reno service center does the transmission fluid service while you wait. Daily US-395 climbs, warehouse work trucks and summer heat are what decide whether a Stead vehicle is on the manual's severe schedule.
Stead is big: 47,046 people in 89506, with 2.18 vehicles per household and 71.6 percent of households owning two or more (Census ACS 5-year 2024). It is also uphill from everything. US-395 rises steadily from the Spaghetti Bowl through Panther Valley to the North Valleys, and the drive home after work is a long, loaded pull for an automatic transmission. That is worth knowing when you read the two columns in your manual.
Honest about the distance
Neither service center is around the corner. Take US-395 south, exit at North McCarran, head west and turn onto Mae Anne Avenue, about 25 minutes by free-flow routing. If your work is in south Reno or near the airport, staying on US-395 to Longley Lane is about 24 and amounts to the same choice. Most Stead customers fold the transmission service into a trip they were already making, often with an oil change.
The work trucks of the North Valleys
The industrial parks around the Reno Stead airport put a lot of pickups, box trucks and vans on North Valleys roads. A vehicle that idles at a dock, runs short hops between buildings or pulls a loaded trailer up US-395 is on the severe-service list in almost every manual. Toyota names towing and stop-and-go as reasons to change transmission fluid sooner, and for most makers the severe column lands between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. The work van transmission page covers fleet use in detail.
The household car that just commutes, a mean of 24.8 minutes in 89506 (Census ACS 2024), mostly at highway speed, may hold the normal interval. We tell you which one applies after reading the manual.
Heat on the climb, cold at the top
The Reno airport station averages about 65 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter and 122 nights at or below freezing (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), and the North Valleys sit higher and more exposed. Summer cooks fluid on the climb; winter makes it thick at the first start. Both are reasons the condition of the fluid matters as much as the mileage.
In the bay
Tell us at the window that you want the transmission checked.
We pull a sample and show you its color and smell.
We quote the service in writing: drain-and-fill or full exchange, as the maker allows.
The manual's fluid goes in, automatic, dual-clutch or CVT, and the level is set warm.
If the sample points to internal wear, we say so; we do not rebuild transmissions.

What a customer said
Reno Northwest
Excellent facility!First visit a day ago. Shop Manager Tim welcomed me, and naturally started a friendly conversation (about cars), then he proceeded to personally service my car (oil change),he worked fast, but not in a hurry, changed the oil, greased the joints, checked everything around the engine, also detected a low transmission fluid level, which he corrected. Saying it simply:Tim is of a kind of professional they don't make any more! I will be back!
