Oil change near Stead and the North Valleys: the Mae Anne Avenue service center is 24 minutes away
Stead is about 24 minutes and 15 miles from our Reno Northwest service center at 6100 Mae Anne Ave by OSRM routing, taking US-395 south to McCarran Boulevard and west to Mae Anne. The Longley Lane service center is about the same distance the other way, so the choice is whichever side of town you are headed to; both do the oil change and the Washoe smog check with no appointment.

Stead is big. The 89506 ZIP Code Tabulation Area counted 47,046 people in 16,141 households in the ACS 2020-2024 estimates, more than any other neighborhood on this site, with 2.18 vehicles per household and 71.6 percent owning two or more. The median age is 35.7 and the median household income is $86,396 per the Census Bureau. It is a community of families, pickups and a US-395 commute that averages 24.8 minutes each way, and it has grown faster than the services along Lemmon Drive. We are not pretending to be around the corner. We are the service center on the way to the rest of Reno, and the one where the smog test and the oil change are done in the same bay.

The honest math on the drive
OSRM's free-flow routing from the center of 89506 to Mae Anne Avenue is 24 minutes, and to Longley Lane it is about the same. Add a few minutes for weekday traffic on US-395 at the Parr Boulevard merge. That is not a trip you make for an oil change alone; it is a trip you make because you are already going to McCarran, the Northwest Reno stores or the airport side of town. Plan the stop into a Saturday errand run and it costs you nothing extra.
From Stead Boulevard or Lemmon Drive, take US-395 south, exit at McCarran Boulevard, head west, and turn left onto Mae Anne Avenue. The service center is on the north side. Going to Longley instead, stay on US-395 to I-580 south, exit at Plumb Lane, and follow Rock Boulevard south to Longley Lane.
Smog and oil, one visit
The North Valleys are inside the Washoe County emissions testing area, which the Nevada DMV defines as Reno, Sparks, Washoe Valley, most of the county west of Washoe Valley and everything south of the 40th parallel. A gasoline vehicle registered in Stead needs an annual smog check from its fourth registration on, hybrids from their sixth model year, and a passing result is good for 90 days (DMV emission program page, read 10/15/26). Both Reno service centers transmit the result to the DMV electronically.
The reason to do both at once is simple: the smog test is the one errand with a deadline, and the oil change is the one you keep putting off. Pairing them gets the oil changed on schedule, and the full-service oil change includes the multi-point check that catches the small things before the US-395 commute turns them into big ones.
What the North Valleys do to a vehicle
The valley floor around Stead is high desert with a lot of open ground, and the wind off Peavine moves dust across it most afternoons. The Reno airport records only 7.35 inches of precipitation a year in the NOAA normals, so that dust stays airborne; engine air filters from Stead come out heavier than filters from the same mileage in the city. Winter adds the airport's 122 freezing nights and 21 inches of snow, and Stead is often colder than the airport.
Pickups are the default vehicle here. A truck that tows, hauls or idles through a cold morning is on its manual's severe-service oil interval, and AAA's note that many modern engines on synthetic go 5,000 to 7,500 miles comes with the caveat that the owner's manual sets the number. We follow the manual, offer the diesel oil change for the diesel pickups, and check the differential fluid on request for the ones that tow.
- Mean commute 24.8 minutes, 69.9 percent drive alone (ACS 2020-2024, ZCTA 89506)
- Coolant that holds at both ends: Reno sees 65 days at 90 F or above and nights well below freezing
- Battery cranking drops in the cold; we test it at every oil change from fall through spring
Hours and which service center to pick
The Mae Anne service center is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 8 to 4, with Google showing 4.6 stars across 209 reviews on 10/15/26. Longley Lane keeps the same weekday hours, closes at 3 on Saturday, and shows 4.8 stars across 339 reviews. Both are closed Sunday.
If your Saturday takes you to the McCarran loop, come to Mae Anne. If it takes you to the airport, the Summit or the south Reno dealerships, Longley is the service center. Either way, you leave with the oil changed, the sticker reset and, if the DMV notice came, the smog result already on file.

Questions from Stead and the North Valleys
Still have a question? Call your service center or drive in; there is no appointment to make.
Is there anything closer to Stead?
There are quick lubes along North Hills Boulevard between Stead and the service center. Our pages list our own drive times honestly; we are the stop on the way into Reno where the smog check and the oil change happen together.
Does a Stead-registered vehicle need a smog check?
Yes, once a gasoline vehicle is on its fourth registration. The North Valleys are inside the Washoe testing area per the Nevada DMV. A hybrid is exempt for its first five model years.
Mae Anne or Longley from Stead?
OSRM routes both at about 24 minutes. Pick the one on the side of town you are going to that day.
Do you service diesel pickups?
Yes. The diesel oil change uses the grade and capacity in the truck's manual, and a diesel up to 14,000 pounds GVWR registered in Washoe County also needs the yearly smog test.
