Battery check for Lemmon Valley drivers: Mae Anne Avenue, 20 minutes
Lemmon Valley is about 20 minutes from our Mae Anne Avenue service center by Lemmon Drive, US-395 and North McCarran, and a battery check there tells you the voltage, the remaining cold cranking amps and the state of the terminals. The Car Care Council recommends testing at three years and before each winter.
Walk any Lemmon Valley street and count the vehicles: the commuter, the truck, the RV, the trailer rig. In the CDP, 85.2 percent of households own two or more (Census ACS 5-year 2024), and the median age is 53.4, which means plenty of vehicles that only go out on weekends or in summer. Those are the batteries that go flat over a winter.
Parked vehicles, steady drain
Every modern vehicle draws a little current while parked to keep its clock, alarm and computer memory alive. A daily driver never notices. A truck that sits for three weeks in January can run its battery down far enough that it will not crank, and a battery that is drained that way more than once or twice loses capacity it will not get back.
If one of yours sits, ask us to test it when it comes in for oil. A battery maintainer on the parked vehicles is cheap insurance, and the test tells you whether the battery is still worth maintaining.
The north valley cold
Reno's airport station logs about 122 nights a year at or below freezing and 25 at 20 degrees or colder (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Lemmon Valley sits higher and more open to the wind than the airport, and the dry lake bed does not hold any warmth overnight. On a cold morning the battery gives less and the starter needs more. That is when a tired battery shows itself.
Our test, and what you hear from us
The technician reads the resting voltage, tests the cold cranking amps against the label and checks the charging voltage with the engine running. Then the terminals, the cables and the case get a look. Battery testing is done at participating locations during the maintenance check that comes with the oil change.
If the battery fails, we tell you and show you the number. We do not replace batteries as part of the check; the next step is the dealer, a parts store or your mechanic, and we write down the rating your vehicle needs.
Lemmon Drive to Mae Anne
Take Lemmon Drive south to US-395, exit at North McCarran, head west and turn onto Mae Anne Avenue; the service center is at 6100 Mae Anne Ave, about 20 minutes and 10.9 miles by OSRM free-flow routing. Longley Lane in south Reno is about 19 minutes. The Lemmon Valley mean commute is 30.3 minutes (ACS 2024), so either service center is closer than most people's job.
Mae Anne Avenue: Monday through Friday 8 to 5, Saturday 8 to 4, closed Sunday. (775) 787-1000. No appointment.
