US-395 is the spine of the Carson Valley. It runs through Minden and Gardnerville, past the ranches and the Ranchos, and on toward Topaz and the Eastern Sierra. When we opened our fourth service center in 2023, putting it on 395 in Gardnerville was the obvious choice. This is a look at the valley it serves.

Who lives within a short drive
By free-flow routing, Minden is about 2.9 miles from the service center, the Gardnerville Ranchos about 4.5, Genoa about 9.8, and the Johnson Lane area about 11.6. Topaz Ranch Estates is about 20 miles down US-395 (OSRM). The Gardnerville Ranchos is the largest community in Douglas County, with about 12,100 residents (Census ACS 5-year 2020-2024).
Douglas County households average 2.25 vehicles, and 73.5 percent have two or more (Census ACS). That is a lot of trucks, SUVs and second cars, and it explains why our Carson Valley service center sees so many pickups.
The valley's weather is hard on cars
Minden's climate station records some of the widest swings in the region. The NOAA 1991-2020 normals show about 68 days a year at 90 F or hotter and about 188 nights at or below freezing, including about 75 nights at 20 F or colder and roughly 2 at 0 F or below. The same car may start at 10 degrees in January and sit in 95-degree sun in July.
That is why the battery check, the coolant's freeze and boil protection, and the A/C service are all real topics at this service center. The Minden climate page lays out the numbers.
- Cold-start batteries: tested at participating locations
- Coolant for both 0 F nights and 95 F afternoons
- A/C ahead of the summer
- Wipers and bulbs for winter nights on 395
No smog check, plenty of everything else
Douglas County is not one of Nevada's emissions testing areas, so vehicles registered here renew without a smog check (Nevada DMV emission page). The Gardnerville service center focuses on the full-service oil change with the maintenance check, fluid services, filters, A/C, bulbs, wipers and a battery check at participating locations. Smog checks are at our two Reno service centers, on Mae Anne Avenue and on Longley Lane.
Reviewers here describe a small-town service center. Sierra S. got an oil change on her lunch break and still had time to grab a bite (Google review). Victoria W. wrote that the crew is always friendly and knowledgeable and she would not take her truck anywhere else for oil changes (Google review). Fred J. recommended local businesses here in Gardnerville (Google review).
Hours and getting there
The Gardnerville service center opens later and closes earlier on Saturday than the others: Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 3, closed Sunday. It sits on US-395 North in Gardnerville at about 4,785 feet (USGS). From Minden, head south on 395; from the Ranchos, come up to 395 and turn north; from Genoa, take Foothill Road or Jacks Valley Road to 395.
Whether you are heading up Kingsbury Grade to the lake or down 395 toward the Eastern Sierra, the bay is on the way. No appointment needed.
