Dayton, ZIP 89403, is about 18 minutes and 11.5 miles from our Carson City service center on College Parkway by OSRM routing, west on US-50. Lyon County is not a smog testing area, so a Dayton-registered vehicle renews without a test.

Carson City, College Parkway, the bays

Dayton grew fast along US-50 east of Carson City: the old town by the Carson River, the subdivisions across the Dayton Valley, and the newer neighborhoods spreading toward Stagecoach. Most people here drive to work in Carson City or Reno, which puts our College Parkway service center on the commute.

On the way in on US-50

Take US-50 west through Mound House into Carson City, then the College Parkway exit or the US-50 and I-580 interchange, and head west on the parkway to the service center. OSRM gives about 18 minutes. Dayton commuters pass within a few minutes of the service center every weekday, so a stop on the way home is the easy pattern; we are open until 5 on weekdays and 8 to 4 on Saturday.

The longest commute south of Reno

The ACS 2020-2024 estimates count 17,506 residents in 6,688 households in ZCTA 89403. The mean commute is 30.9 minutes, longer than any Carson City ZIP, and 77.0 percent drive alone. Households average 2.25 vehicles, 75.4 percent keep two or more, and the median household income is $97,153 per the ACS. The median age is 46.7.

Thirty minutes each way, five days a week, is a lot of highway. AAA notes many modern engines on synthetic go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes, and your owner's manual sets the number; at that pace it arrives every few months. We reset the reminder at every visit.

Dayton's households also tend to keep their vehicles a long time, and a car with a lot of miles on it may do better on a high-mileage oil if the manual allows it. We will say what the manual calls for and leave the choice to you.

Dayton and the smog question

Lyon County is not on the Nevada DMV list of emissions areas, which covers only the urban parts of Washoe and Clark counties. A car registered in Dayton renews with no smog check. If your vehicle is registered at a Reno or Sparks address, the Washoe test applies, and our Reno service centers run it.

River valley dust

Dayton is dry, windy and dusty much of the year, and the dirt roads at the edges of the subdivisions do not help. The engine air filter and the cabin air filter both get a look at every oil change, and we show you the filter before we suggest replacing it.
